fajrdrako: ([Torchwood] - Captain Jack)

Photos from our expedition to the Canadian Aviation Museum on Thursday. I asked if I could take photos inside, and they said, "Sure. Just don't touch the planes."

fajrdrako: ([Supernatural] - Castiel)

This evening I saw the Supernatural episode 5x02, "Good God, Y'All". I seem to have increasing difficulty in understanding the episode titles - but they do remain snappy.

This one... )

fajrdrako: ([Misc] - 03)

With mentoring by [livejournal.com profile] explodedteabag, I watched two episodes of Dark Angel this evening. Both episodes were from season 2: 2x03, "Proof of Purchase", and 2x01, "Deisgnate This".

I liked what I'd heard of the premise - a little like X-Men's "Days of Future Past", I'd thought, where mutants were persecuted in a post-Apocalyptic world. And it is rather like that, except the mutants are all artificial (what if all the superheroes came from Project X?) and it isn't very post-Apocalyptical.

What struck me most is how much Jessica Alba as Max (X-452) made me think of the Wolverine clone, X-23. There are differences - X-23 has claws - but the personality, the Weapon-X-like Manticore background, the training, the youth and femininity of the protagonist, all make me think of X-23. All the more so when they opened the bars of the facility and all the mutants - er, constructs - ran out, very like the scene in X-Men Origins: Wolverine when they opened the prison of Project X.

I could also see a thematic similarity between Max and River in Firefly. And a thematic similarity to Dollhouse, even, though that was subtler.

Jansen Ackles was gorgeous as the young, dangerous, morally ambiguous Alec. Loved the line when Max said she'd name him Alec, "As in Smart Alec. The other choice was Dick." That sounds like a Supernatural line.

Michael Weatherly made me think of Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG1.

I really liked the character of Joshua (Kevin Durand), the human canine hybrid.

And Nana Visitor was brilliant, but then, she always is.

The writing quality suffered in comparison to Supernatural and even the best characters didn't win my heart. But still... interesting, rather good TV SF.

I'd like to see more.
