From [livejournal.com profile] dagdalorijane on [livejournal.com profile] literaryquotes:
"And, in fact, this is the tale that I would love to write: history is such a romantic place, with its jarveys and urchins and side-buttoned boots. If it would just stay still, I think, and settle down. If it would just stop sliding around in my head." - Anne Enright.

"It is history that teaches us to hope." - Robert E. Lee
But doesn't it also teach us to despair?

I think the lesson of history is that it teaches us nothing. Its meaning, like the meaning of life, is not what it gives us, but what we take from it.

There’s got to be a way to force the transit union and the city back to the negotiation table and get them to work on resolving the bus strike. It’s embarrassing that a capital city of a democratic country is being held hostage by two power mad leaders dictating their agendas much to our continued suffering. Please get the buses back on the roads.
Yes. Get the buses back on the roads.

I fear they are so caught up in their battle they don't notice or care what is happening to this city.
