Choosing...

We must choose. Be a child of the past with all its crudities and imperfections, its failures and defeats, or a child of the future, the future of symmetry and ultimate success. - Frances E. Willard, 1839 - 1898
The future means... symmetry?

I'm not sure what that means, but I like it. Time in terms of patterns.

I see from the Wikipedia entry on her that Willard was a femminist and agitator for women's rights. That explains her use of words, a little.

From [livejournal.com profile] dargie:
1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two. As it happens, I have not been talking about politics, American or otherwise. I have not even been thinking about politics - well, not much - but the instruction not to do so has suddenly made me want to talk about politics. Maybe in another post. Maybe not. Anyway... Picture me zippering my mouth, like the Master did with the American President in "Last of the Time Lords". Not a word, oh no, not me.

2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS. Okay, here are the two cutest things I can think of: a man and his dog.

John Barrowman and his Jack Russell terrier puppy, Captain Jack. (Known as CJ.)

Then because overkill is my middle name, under a cut, here are two other photos to make you smile. ExpandA panda being cute as only a panda can be... )

And this picture, posted by an American friend a few days ago, is one of the most delightful I've seen in a while: ExpandThe American Sparrow )

3. Include these instructions, and share the love. Hugs to all.

The Ten Sexiest Moments in Torchwood

These are ... not set in stone. And it's very subjective, but it's fun to think about. I'd love to hear other people's choices, even just their top three.

10. Naked hide and seek in the Hothouse. Not because of the semi-nudity and groping, or even because of the sexy dialogue, though that doesn't hurt. Mostly because of the cute smile on Ianto's face when he's talking to Gwen, because he's been having such a good time. ("Adrift")

9. Jack teaching Gwen Cooper to aim a gun. ("Ghost Machine")

8. Captain Jack and Captain John meet, kiss, and fight. ("Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang")

7. Gwen kisses Carys. ("Day One")

6. Toshiko kisses Mary - the kiss in the restaurant, when Toshiko blushes and looks so happy and shy. ("Greeks Bearing Gifts")

5. Ianto propositions Jack over the corpse of Suzie. And Jack's wonderful smile. ("They Keep Killing Suzie")

4. Jack smiles to remember the Doctor, and then tells Ianto he came back for "you - all of you". ("Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang")

3. Ianto tells Jack that he gave his life meaning, and Jack kisses Ianto's forehead . ("Adam")

2. The two Captain Jacks kiss before parting. ("Captain Jack Harkness")

1. Jack smiles when he hears the TARDIS. ("End of Days")

So [livejournal.com profile] commodorified, [livejournal.com profile] iclysdale and [livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala were over, with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified's mother. And they were talking about American politics. And stressing. So to unstress, we watched an episode of Due South ("The Witness"), and then wanted something else unstressful.

It was the diabolical [livejournal.com profile] iclysdale who suggested we should watch the Buffy musical episode, "Once More With Feeling". He claims he was not serious in the suggestion. Hah! It's no good pretending. Once suggested, it had to be done.

Now, this is several seasons past where I've watched anything. Spoilers? Nothing dire, or at least, nothing I understood; nothing I didn't already know about. I kept thinking, "But they all look so grown up!" Except Giles, who always did look grown up, and Spike, of course. Spike looks just the same: sexy and great. And of course I couldn't catch all the references, not knowing what's been going on, but that hardly mattered.

It was hilarious.

Even my stuffed crocodile and camel were dancing.

What glorious fun.
