Choosing...

We must choose. Be a child of the past with all its crudities and imperfections, its failures and defeats, or a child of the future, the future of symmetry and ultimate success. - Frances E. Willard, 1839 - 1898
The future means... symmetry?

I'm not sure what that means, but I like it. Time in terms of patterns.

I see from the Wikipedia entry on her that Willard was a femminist and agitator for women's rights. That explains her use of words, a little.

Hmmm, one of WordWeb's definitions of symmetry is "Balance among the parts of something" -- that might have been what she was getting at. As opposed to divisive, which we've seen a lot of in the past 8 years.

Balance is good. Divisiveness in nations is not.

*frowns at it*
Wouldn't that mean history was bound to repeat itself only - as it were - in reverse?

That could not be a good thing. Great basis for a sci-fi novel though- No, wait, it's already been done...

I always love playing with time-concepts, even though they make my brain go squirrelly. It's all so wibbly-wobbly. And now symmetrical! But you know, those circles of energy that go round the TARDIS from time to time, they look fairly symmetrical. No reason they shouldn't be. There's lots of symmetry in nature.

The Rift, now, I can't see that as symmetrical in any way.

The Rift is a squirelly, spirally, explodey thing and I swear it is the cause of the abnormalities in Primeval.

In fact I'm surprised that anything lands up back in Cardiff through it at all...

Maybe it's a sort of interdimensional dustbin. Without much discrimination in what it hoovers up... or coughs up.
