fajrdrako: ([Torchwood] - gun porn)

Good characters who appear only once, and briefly. In chronological order, and avoiding spoilers.

  1. Yvonne, in "Everything Changes". Loved her hair.

  2. Pizza Boy, seen in "Everything Changes". He was cute, and seemed very real.

  3. The night club security guard in "Day One". He seemed to have a complete personality, and I liked the surprise shock effect of his scene. One of those things they just don't do on TV, but they did.

  4. Bernie's mum, in "Ghost Machine". Loving kindness!

  5. Pizza Girl, in "Cyberwoman". She was cute, too. (What a shame.)

  6. The nice teacher in "Small Worlds", who was concerned that Jasmine was being bullied, and tried to protect the girls against the whirlwind.

  7. The James Bond wannabe that Tosh passes in the street in "Greeks Bearing Gifts".

  8. Suzie's Dad in "They Keep Killing Suzie". I can imagine all sorts of background stories for him.

  9. Eugene's brother in "Random Shoes". Again, such a complete story in so few minutes.

  10. The Roman soldier in "End of Days". He had spirit. Too bad he and Jack couldn't get together later.

From [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 today: What 5 characters would you like to be stranded on a desert island with?

What, all at once, or separately?

I can think of waay too many answers.

Let's assume singly, and I'll go for variety.

  1. Francis Crawford of Lymond. He could teach me languages.

  2. Captain Jack Harkness. He could teach me to ... dance.

  3. The Doctor. He could take us away in the TARDIS.

  4. Captain Cairo Azarcon. I don't know what he could teach me, but he'd be a resourceful and sane companion.

  5. Supergirl. She'd be fun to know and we could leave anytime.

Have you ever missed an important appointment because you have become so engrossed in a book you forgot the time or were up so late reading that you didn't wake up in time? Been late to work because you couldn't resist the temptation and left the house too late?

No, but only because I'm very careful about those things. I have certainly missed bus stops because I was reading on the bus, and have had to rush to get to places on time because I was reading. I take that as normal.

I got this quiz from [livejournal.com profile] kikibug13:

Pirate Monkey's Harry Potter Personality Quiz
Harry Potter Personality Quiz
by Pirate Monkeys Inc.

Funny how I consistently come out as INFP - I keep thinking I'm giving different answers each time, and will therefore get a different result, but I always get the same one. There's another description of my type here here. I never thought of applying the types to Harry Potter - but then, I wouldn't. I had to think a bit before remembering who Remus Lupin was - he's the teacher who turned out to be a werewolf, right?

Someone told me that INFP's are over-represented online, as we are just the types likely to be writing in LJ. Hmm. Can't disprove it by me.

I wonder what personality designation the Doctor would have. Or Captain Jack.

I watched the first two episodes of Drive this evening. It stars Nathan Fillion: I wasn't going to miss that. And I'm glad I didn't.

Now, I'm not entirely sold on the show. It's about something I really don't like - people driving cars, lots of scenes of American highways, it just isn't one of my favourite things. And though I like horse racing and dog racing and foot racing, car racing just doesn't interest me. Add to that: the premise of the show is just bizarre enough to make my suspension of disbelief tap its foot skeptically and mutter, "Okay, convince me. Come up with something that would make this even remotely plausible."

So far they haven't, but there are plenty of compensations. Besides Nathan Fillion, everyone has an interesting story - even with characters I thought at first I didn't like. There are twists and surprises. Real surprises. Good characterization and suspense that caught my attention in spite of myself.

The show reminded me of Twin Peaks, X-Files, Lost, Vanished, and Nikita all at once. Oddly enough, considering it's a Tim Minnear show, it didn't remind me of Firefly or The Inside in the least. I've no idea where it's going, and I like that. It has that nice blend of paranoia and urgency.

Yes, I'll be watching next week.
