There used to be a guy in my yoga class that had a strange effect on my perception. Not a big thing, but there was something odd in my perception of him. A couple of times I thought, "Who is that woman?" and then had to remind myself, "Oh, it's George. How could I mistake him for a woman?" He didn't look or act particularly androgynous as far as I could see.

Last night the teacher announced that this student had changed gender from male to female, and it was an occasion for celebration, and he should be congratulated for making this courageous and difficult transition. Suddenly my oddity in perceiving him - her - was totally clear to me.

I was proud of everyone there. This is the way it always ought to be.

I've been swearing that I should stay home more, especially as the weather starts to get cold and wintry.

No such luck. As far as I can see I have no more than a few minutes at home in the next few days - except for sleeping time, and barely that.

Please be patient with unanswered mail, and a neglected LJ! I miss you and will be back a.s.a.p.

I just got back from seeing the current play at the Ottawa Little Theatre, Visiting Mr. Green by Jeff Baron.

For me, and with the utterly weird mood I was in all day, it was the perfect play. Unpretentious, realistic, gay-friendly and optimistic. I enjoyed it more than I've enjoyed any stage production in a long time.

Occasionally good things happen at work.

I had a horrendously busy day today - no, that wasn't the good part. The wardrobe coordinator asked me if I could get her some pictures of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean because she needs to make a Sparrow costume for rental.

I said I could spare the time. In fact, I was willing to give it every priority. I dropped my other tasks at hand (unimportant stuff like the bank deposits) and made a thorough search.

When I took the pictures to the costumer she said, "Doesn't he look fine!" and enthused over the headgear. I agreed that yes, he looked fine.

One of the pictures showed Will Turner standing by Jack Sparrow. "Oh, that's the wimpy boyfriend," she said, and I grinned, though I didn't ask whether she meant he was Jack's wimpy boyfriend, or Elizabeth's.

Poor Orlando Bloom. All the beauty and splendour of Legolas of Mirkwood, reduced to being "the wimpy boyfriend". Heh.
