Understanding

"Do we have an understanding, Miss Sullivan?"

Chloe nodded. Standing close, she raised her chin so Lionel Luthor could kiss her.

It was a grown-up kiss. Experienced. Warm. Nothing like Sean's clumsiness or Justin's eagerness or Ian's lies. Champagne, not kool-aid. Fingers trickled over her breast, promising mysteries.

Unlike Clark, Lionel wanted her.

Goose-bumps spread over her skin. On tiptoe, she clutched his shoulders, muscle under tweed, powerful. Clark's gentle strength was safe. This could sweep her away like a twig in a stream.

How dangerous could Lionel be? He was thirty years older and tasted like everything she'd ever wanted. There would be a price, she just didn't know what.

She would never know, until too late.

"Miss Sullivan?" he repeated.

She had forgotten the question, but had only one answer. "Yes." Yes, yes, yes.

He smiled. "Yes. We understand each other now."

On Rideau St., on the way to the fitness club at lunchtime, I caught a snip of conversation: one young man saying to another, "Karaoke and prostitutes, what could be better?"

Yesterday I saw someone with a black T-shirt on, in white lettering on his back, "Teach your children to worship Satan." I thought of John Glover and grinned.

I'm going home from work early today: have to meet up with the repair person who will be fixing my digital cable box. Something is wrong: from channel 87 to 700 or so, all I can get is blocks of frozen colour instead of a TV picture.

I left the air conditioning off, since they say that if our power usage goes up to normal levels again, we'll have more blackouts. Yuck. When will things be back to normal? Luckily it isn't as hot as they said it would be, but air conditioning would be good. Often I leave the television on when I go to work - tuned to the 'nature sounds' music station, which the birds like, except when they play the howling of coyotes. That makes the little guys nervous. Some things on that station are great - surf sounds, woodland sounds; but they tend to play Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" so often that I am getting heartily sick of that piece (which I used to love), and I can't recall that Beethoven ever played it on a continuous loop.

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] maboroshimaki sent me some pictures of Orlando Bloom in a love scene with a woman. We were trying to figure out what role it was. Not, clearly, the rentboy in "Wilde". Not the stuff we've seen - "the Lord of the Rings," "Pirates of the Caribbean", etc. Obviously not the invisible and non-existent "Deed Poll"! So, maybe, "Ned Kelly"? Or a TV show?

The cable guy came and went. Nice man, who sorted out my problem without fixing it - that is to say, there's "a hum in the box" and that box is somewhere on the second floor of the apartment building - I'm not the only one having problems. He said it's probably also affecting my internet connection, so if things are slow online, that's why.

Some magician will fix the thing in the near future.

Meanwhile, I'm out of luck if I want to watch channel 209, 210 or 222 - prime Smallville channels. Oh well. I have it all on video anyway, right?

The adventures happened because I decided, in a momentary fit of good housekeeping, to scrub out the trays at the bottom of the bird cages.

I scrubbed the tray from Pryde and Kaylee's cage, no problem. Put it back in.

I scrubbed the tray from the cage belonging to Wisdom, Simon and Domino, and next thing I knew Simon was flying around the room. Somehow the little devil had managed to squeeze his whole body through the tiny space where the tray fits into the cage. So there he was, flying around with glee, delighted by his daring escape.
