My cold is better, and I'm still high on a sense of freedom. My plan to exercise is getting a slow start, so I set out for a walk this morning. It's a nice day for walking; the sidewalks aren't particuarly icy or snow-covered, and I headed south on Bank Street.

I am so very out of shape. It's almost a year since I regularly walked to work, or walked on a regular basis at all; and I've spent a good part of the past week in bed. I walked for an hour. I went at top speed, which sadly, is currently indistinguishable from a slow crawl. I am tired.

What a wimp.

Give me a few weeks of practice walking daily and I'll be back in fine form.

"Top speed" relative to what? To a bicycle? To a skateboarder? To a window-browser? It is all relative!

"Top speed" meaning, "the most that I felt that I could safely do"...? Yep. You'll work at it and soon begin to please yourself. You are mighty!

It's a lovely bright cold-ish day here, too, and I was just out... definitely sunglasses today. Invigorating! Now I'm making chicken-and-bowties for my nephew. He likes it how I make it: with onions!

(I'll save you some.)

Well... I was comparing my speed today to my speed of twelve months ago, but your point is valid: can't expect to get back to speed all at once.

It's kind of cold and damp here, but I like this weather. As long as the sidewalks are relatively clear, I'm happy.

We're having spaghetti for supper. Yum.

You can do everything you need to do. Only, you may not be able to do it as fast as you wish you could, that's all. I can't advise you to have patience... you already have been incredibly patient! Think of how you felt eleven months ago! (I think that would put you on the day that you came home from the hospital.) Then think ahead to next year this time: wow, you're amazing. (Mark my words!)

I love spaghetti. I ended up having chicken, onions, and pasta bows and then some nice raw carrots, yum.

Nice supper.

Patience has never been my best thing, but I'm doing all right.

Patience has never been your best thing... yes, I know. Remembering last April and May and June, I certainly know that. But what you want to happen will happen when it can. In the meantime, we just keep practicing for it.

I'm talking to myself as well as to you. xo

Understood! Good advice for both of us.

Today I'm writing my apazine. Whee!

I look forward to seeing the apa. Say -- either Sheila or someone said that they have run out of mailing envelopes. I'm certain I sent about thirty Tyvek USPS envelopes... all gone already? Or have they been misplaced? Hm.

When did you send the envelopes? It's possible they were lost/misplaced since Sheila and Harry's lives have been sort of disrupted. Anyway, I found a package of your Tyvek USPS envelopes in my locker downstairs when I was cleaning it out, and gave it to Grant, so he has envelopes enough to last for a while. But they could use more if you're able to send some.

Ah. Yes, guess all the envelopes got misplaced somewhere between here and there. Glad you found some. I'll get some more together to send (with my dues). I'll send chocolate, too. Think anyone will mind?

I think they'd all love chocolate.

I'll mail chocolate wrapped in about 30 envelopes!

Hee. I'll give mine to Beulah.

Now I have to go mail the envelopes. I will. I promise.

I walked on the Canal today (Thursday) from Mackenzie King to Bank St. South, so I went by your place. While I was tempted to come and visit, I wasn't sure you'd be home.

Some sidewalks and other places are *still* slippery. Please be careful out there.

Unfortunately, I pushed myself too hard, so I am wiped ... but still can't get to sleep. Bizarre. :-/

It looks really slippery today. Yesterday I solved the slipperiness problem by going along Bank Street, which was very clear. Today... maybe I won't walk. Maybe I'll solve the problem by using the treadmill. Something like that.

The key is relaxation... There are ways of learning how. I could give you a CD if you like. It might help.
