England, especially the south! Rolling hills and castles everywhere. And enchanting villages with silly names.

Some of my ancestors are from a Yorkshire village called Wigtwizzle. How's that? :-D

I love it!

Let's face it-- Monty Python came by their humor naturally. :)

I too love the castles and hills of the south of England. Particularly Kent; I used to want to live in or near Dover. Beautiful, beautiful country.

I still wouldn't turn it down. But the north stole my heart in another way.

Great list!

I'm hoping to retire somewhere in the Maritimes. Preferably Newfoundland.

I'd like to see more of Newfoundland, especially the south. I've only been to a bit of the north, which was like a foreign planet.

I adore Nova Scotia, which is, as far as I'm concerned, by far the nicest part of Canada. Yes, even nicer than the area around Georgian Bay, and that's saying a lot.

I'm with you on Crete. Crete is amazing and I'd love to go back there some time, just to poke around in all the history again.

My dream place to visit is Petra in Jordan, but am not sure I'll ever get there. Also would love to go to Iceland to drool over the geology, be fascinated by the use of geothermal power and inspired by their history (longest running parliament in the world - the Manx parliament was initiated earlier, but has not been in continuous session since its inception).

Northumberland/Durham/Borders is one of the most gorgeous areas of England. I also love Cumbria, and it's great that my parents now live there. I like Yorkshire too there are some wonderful names like Ugglebarnby as well as the wild and windy moors.

I almost said Iceland, too. Because it's different.

And I certainly wouldn't say no to seeing Petra, though a few other places rank higher in my desires. I almost said Persepolis (war zone - is there anything left?) or Mohenjy-Daro (war zone, again).

Your parents live in Cumbria! Lucky!

And yes, Yorkshire is gorgeous and amazing. One of the nicest places I've ever been.

Oops! That should have been a comment to your post rather than to that specific comment. I shall take this as confirmation that I need to go to bed NOW.

Durham and the Border Country are very special - and not just because of Lymond. Durham Cathedral still has the power to take my breath away.

Durham Cathedral is quite possibly the most amazing and wondrous place I have ever seen.

I've never been to Durham - I was planning to go late last year, but only (only?!) made it to Hexham and the Wall. I did like you comment about the Scillies: "the Scillies (I've been there but would like to go again)" - very poetic.

My fave places: Scotland (the West Highlands around Ballachulish and Oban), Malta (score 2 for Rosiespark), and where I live now(the South [West] of England with Castles - most notably my fave: Berkeley Castle where EdII met a Horrible End.

Only to Hexham! Eeeee! If you knew how much I wanted to visit Hexham - !

Oh. Wait a minute. Of all people, you do. Understood.

Scotland (the West Highlands around Ballachulish and Oban)

When I was travelling around Scotland in 1977 we went there, and I went up on a hill where there was a ruined something or other (castle? tower? fort? Bit of fortified masonry) and I sat sketching it on my sketch pad with the whole vista of Mull and the coast spread out below me. It was so gorgeous. Now, I can't draw, you understand, but that wasn't the point.

Malta (score 2 for Rosiespark)

Yeah. Wonderful place.

I've never been to Berkeley Castle. Hmm. Must do something about that.
