Scary. Makes a person paranoid. It the intention of the law is to protect children, this seems so wide of the mark.

Whoa. That's the second time this link pops up on my flist. Hrm. Tricky subject, I can understand that child protection is Important with capital I, but seriously? Manga? Aren't there more... I don't know, can't they just go after real child molesters/kid rapers more? Perhaps don't let them out of jail instead of fussing over mangas? Sheesh.

I'd say those are all very good points, and I hope the law considers them.

I'm all for protecting children, but this is so much a different situation - one that offers no harm to children at all - that I think the connection doesn't even exist.

Maybe it has to be tested in law to prove that, to set the precedent - in a good way, towards freedom of speech and artistic expression rather than away from it.

I agree - totally different situation. It would be good if it's tested in a good way, but I'm afraid all you need is a proven child molester who has a manga collection... *sigh*
