Dorothy Dunnett's first novel, The Game of Kings, was published on Oct. 15, 1961. The 50th anniversary of that date is coming up next month.

In commemoration of this event, the Dorothy Dunnett Society is encouraging the celebration of International Dorothy Dunnett Day. At 1 p.m. local time, Dunnett readers everywhere will toast Dorothy Dunnett and her remarkable books, her heroes, and her accomplishments.
There will be an event in Ottawa: a Mad High Tea Party, at The Tea Party Cafe on Saturday, October 15 at 12 noon. Organized by me. Any Dunnett fan, or anyone who would like to be a Dunnett fan, is welcome to come.
It is requested that, for the Dunnett Toast, you should wear a hat - any hat: bicycle helmet, cowboy hat, fedora, fine chapeau or tiara. It doesn't need to be shaped like a sentry box, but you'd get special bonus points if it is. An award will be given for the best hat.
You are also asked to bring your favourite Dunnett quotation - something from Dorothy Dunnett's life, or her writings, or a quotation about her. No more than 500 words, please, or we could end up reading all the books to each other. It would never end. If you don't have a favourite quote, pick a line at random.
R.S.V.P. by Oct 13, please, so I can adjust the reservation as necessary.
