Fictional royality...
May. 19th, 2011 11:24 pmI've been neglecting The Fannish 5. Time to rectify that. From April 29: 5 favorite royal characters.
- Prince Hal/Henry V, in the plays by Shakespeare. Because he's a charmer, with moral and social issues. And a dramatic war on his hands. And he's cute with the French princess.
- Emperor Gregor Vorbarra, in the Vorkosigan novels by Lois McMaster Bujold. Because... well, largely because of his wonderful scene in the airlock with Cavilo in The Vor Game, but for a lot of other reasons besides.
- Eugenides, in the novels by Megan Whalen Turner. There's no one like him.
- Aragorn son of Arathorn, in The Lord of the Rings. For many reasons, including his initial reluctance to take the throne of Gondor.
- Thorfinn, in Dorothy Dunnett's King Hereafter. Because he was so brave.
Hamlet should fit in there somewhere.
I was trying to think of royalty I like in comic books, and I didn't come up with much: I don't generally like the kings of the DC or Marvel world, like Namor or Black Bolt or T'Challa. I did like Magneto in House of M, but that wasn't a very prominent role, and isn't Magneto as he normally is.
