Getting to work was a bit of an adventure. Walking to the bus stop - a ten minute walk - was nerve-wracking, but not physically difficult. Psychologically difficult. I took longer than usual, and so missed my best bus by seconds. I was about a foot from the back of the bus as it left the stop, and if running had been feasible, I might have caught it. But I'm not going to try running on ice, snow, and slush. Not yet, anyway. I'm regaining my courage by stages.

Because I then took the second-best bus, I had to stand at the bus stop at the Rideau Centre for five or ten minutes to transfer. I'd better get used to this - or manage to leave home earlier.

Arriving at the theatre, there was an another adventure to face. It is the first day of our new alarm system in the office. I had to unlock the door, remember the pass code, and enter it in thirty seconds before the alarms went off. Not a big deal, except it was just installed yesterday and I'd never used it before. Bingo! No problem.

So now - what else does the day have in store? I'm primed for anything.

Congrats on making it to the office in good form! It is a bit of a milestone, isn't it, with the slush and all. And work alarms have always freaked me out, so I totally understand.

Thanks for the congratulations! I just feel so self-conscious on my feet in ice and snow now. Mostly it wasn't slushy at all, and I don't know if that makes it better or worse.

I've never had an office alarm before. It was installed yesterday afternoon. It feels strange to have one.

Yay for your making it safely to, and into, work!

I can't quite grasp the idea of snow and ice. We're having an unseasonably hot spell, so I'm still wearing sandals and short sleeves... This weather is crazy. *tap, tap, tap*

Extra points and a bonus (sadly virtual) packet of Twistees if you get the reference... :)

I envy your hot spell. This morning as I was nervously making my way through the snow (and did I mention ice?) I was thinking where I would like to live if I were to live somewhere warm. Malta was my first thought. Italy was my second.

I'm trying to pinpoint your reference as Umbrella Academy....

You could live in Malta and then we could flit over to Italy together for regular visits, explore all sorts of different places. *sigh* Thinking about the possibilities for travel is one of the few things that really make me wish that I were rich!

And no, it's not UA. How very interesting that that's what you thought I'd be quoting. *g* UA or MCR lyrics would actually be the logical answer - still happily obsessing...

It's not a direct quote - I cheated a bit. It was originally "These Romans are crazy" but it was then expanded to cover various other races. Ring any bells?

Wouldn't that be fun? I'd love it. You'd be surprised if you knew how often I dream about being in Malta. Not memories from when I was there, but just that... it's seems to be the common background of my dreams now. Being in Malta and doing all sorts of things that have nothing much to do with Malta at all.

How very interesting that that's what you thought I'd be quoting.

Wishful thinking, probably. [g]

Hah! You mean, "Ils sout fous, ces Romans?" or: "Ils sont fous, ces Maltasains?" Actually I can't remember what the French for "Maltese" is, which shames me, and I don't remember Asterix ever going to Malta, but he must have, he went everywhere else. Maybe I just didn't read that one.

(Now I'm picturing Obelix as a Knight of St. John...)

Like, um, watching television with me, or listening to MCR together? Have you watched the LotMS video diary yet? I just watched the second half of it for the umpteenth time, from making the I'm Not Okay video to the end. *happy sigh*

Obelix as a Knight of St. John...

If I could remember my dreams better, I'd tell you what I was doing.... I remember a but of one dream in which I was lost, and looking for your place as a landmark.

I'd like to do any of those things.

Nick Upton.

Did your day treat you well after that??

Um... Do you mind me asking, you'll know why ;-), what theme is this journal right now??

Did your day treat you well after that??

More or less. Going to the bank in the afternoon was no joy, since it wasn't the least bit warmer and the wind had whipped up, but it was bearable. Yes, the rest of the day was pretty good.

My LJ (believe it or not) is 'blue grey flexible squares'.

I thunk it was- Flexible Squares that is... Not the blue grey thing!

The blue/grey is now entirely hidden. I think I've always used Flexible Squares - haven't tried out the other designs, because I liked that one and stuck with it.

It's not one I think I've ever used. I think when I was new to lj I just looked for themes with links set to the left - it didn't occur to me back then that I could fiddle with them myself and make them look any different :o

Yes. It's not till you play with it a bit that you see what you can do, to make changes. And since I first came onto LJ, the number of changes you can make has increased. Maybe back in the beginning you couldn't fiddle with so much.

I like the variety we can create.

There are *definitely* more styles you can switch you rown headers into - even with free accounts - than I remember there being from when I first joined.

I like the way we see a lot of variety in LJs' styles now. Some are hideously ugly but some are really good to look at. I think it's fun to just browse to see people's styles.

Let's all start singing "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland" and other abominable songs as loud as possible, to drown out the sound of our chattering teeth.

I disapprove.

Ew. I was shivering today, but it was from hormones, not cold.

TMI, I'm sure.

I can relate.

It's even colder today.

Double grump.

What does your icon mean?

Yes We Can is the Obama slogan. Michigan is my state. Someone made icons like these for all the states, in favor for an Obama vote.

Oh, I see. Thanks for explaining. I guessed it was something like that but I didn't knwo the "Yes we can" slogan.

Catchy.

I am glad you made it safely to work. We have had one no-big-deal snowfall so far, but otherwise incredibly mild weather this fall. It hasn't even been freezing at night.

And now here it's freezing (and way beyond freezing) morning, noon and night, but they say it will warm up in a few days. This happened very suddenly, which is typical of Ottawa. I want an Indian summer - I think we've earned one. Not going to get it, though. Obviously.
