I'd be a little more interested if there were options for "how many people in Canada have my name" or, even better, "how many people in the world have my name". But until someone puts up those websites, I live with what I get here.

Turns out there are 186 people with my first and last name in the United States. There are 1,431,356 Elizabeths - is that all? If we added a middle name, what would it come to?

Just how many of me are there and why is that a scary thought?

How many have your name?

There's 25 of me in the US and 9 in the UK.

You found a UK site? Cool.

I'm the only person with my first-last name combination in the U.S., but there are 6000 with my first name and 1300 with my last name. (1300 kind of makes me wonder how easy it would be to find out how I'm related to all of them...)

Actually the site said there are "1 or fewer" people with my name. So they're not quite sure I exist. Heh.

I have a double, though. Walking around my neighborhood, strangers keep stopping me and asking about my baby. Which I don't have. But they're convinced they know me and that I have a baby.

So, Rusty, how's your baby?

That amuses me.

As an Elizabeth, I could be lost in the crowd.

Me too. But as A Canadian, I don't worry about it.

I wonder if it may be protections within Census data to avoid disclosing personal information?

Maybe, but I don't think the site is working with any kind of 'data', more like semi-educated guesses. I wouldn't take it too seriously.

This is why I don't spread the name around much. *g*

Why? Are you not comfortable with having a rare name?

It's the ease of identifiability, I suspect. One of my great-great-grandfathers had a bizarre name (mind, his whole family had names like something out of Cold Comfort Farm): as a genealogist, for me it did at least make him easy to find!

There is that.

Rare names do tend to be memorable, too.

I'm not comfortable with the idea that any nut job on the internet could see my name and where I live and be waiting for me on my front porch one night.

I also know there is an Australian showjumper with my name. But I doubt any of them has my middle name.

Just by googling my name I know there's someone is sports, someone in the Board of Education here, a woman who died in Massachusetts in the 17th century.... and a woman who lives a few blocks away from me in the Glebe, though she must be very old now.

I wonder how many in Canada? In Toronto, perhaps? There seems to be a Maltese community there, though I've no idea how big it is.

Sizeable, I'd say, going by the ready availability of Kinnie... You could probably get Twistees there too. And pastizzi. Not to mention spagetti biz-zalza tal-fenek. *g*

Wanna party?

The numbers have to be bogus, because I get the one or fewer (on my call name that is to be expected, but on my tax name too) but a Google turns up others. It might be based on some kind of probability based on a popular names database, instead of actual census or white pages search of real names.

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
I think I read that this was the case - somewhere on the site? So it's not even based on statistics, just name probabilities, which follow fashions and aren't subject to any kind of rationale.

Still: it has a certain amusement value as a game.

I just checked. On one form of my tax name there is exactly one (meaning me) and on other forms "one or fewer" meaning not me either.

I'm the only one of me in the US, too. I'm the only one of me who comes up when I google myself, too -- the other sites are all Hungarian. Apparently my first name is a word in Magyar, and my last name a Hungarian given name.

Is that a coincidence? Or do you have a Hungarian name on purpose?

Just 6 if Gibson, and 17 if Lee. Not too popular, me.

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
I find that hard to believe. I mean, Lee? Aren't there Lees all over the place? It's both an English name and a Chinese name. Though I suppose it can be spelled different ways. And your first name isn't that obscure.

I think this quiz is highly suspect.
