From Daily Zen:
What was was your favorite TV show growing up?? Re-run and first-run?
My first favourite TV show was Perry Mason. I was six. It was on Friday nights at 8 p.m., and my mother and I would settle down on the sofa in front of the television and discuss it as we watched, trying to guess who the murderer might be. We were pretty good at guessing, too. I thought Della Street was wonderful.
When I was eight and Perry Mason Wasn't on any more, my favourite show was My Favourite Martian, because Ray Walston was so funny and Bill Bixby was so cute.
When I was twelve, I had my first real fandom on TV: The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. My friends and I wrote stories based on the show, and collected all the articles and pictures and novels and comic books we could find. Toys too, and the LP of the music.
They were of course first-run shows: we didn't get rerun series in those ancient dark days.
I also enjoyed The Avengers very much, but it wasn't a particpatory fandom in the same way. Just a good show.
