Torchwood: The Calendar...

Today in the mail I got the 2009 Torchwood Calendar.

It's always a risk, when you order these things by mail. I remember once getting an X-Files calendar, and it was all pictures of monsters, rather than the beautiful Mulder, Skinner, Krycek and Scully pictures I wanted.

But the Torchwood Calendar does it right. Of course, it's mostly publicity photos that are far from new... But not all of them. The selection:

January - the publicity shot of Captain John and Captain Jack, with Jack holding his Webley up. I love this one. Brings the New Year in with a bang... Kiss, kiss, bang, bang.

February - Toshiko looking serious. 'Course she usually looks serious.

March - Martha, beautiful Martha, in Owen's medical bay in the Hub.

April - Captain Jack looking serious. Series 2 publicity photo. Nice one, with his collar fastened high. We've never seen him do that in the show. (Or have I forgotten something?)

May - Gwen and Rhys, holding hands and standing close. Rhys looks concerned. Gwen looks heartbroken.

June - Ianto Jones, looking serious.

Between June and July, a centrefold. It looks just like this except there's a staple on Jack's nose, and underneath the picture the word Torchwoodin red on white. It's the source of the solo portraits of the team in February, April, June, August and October.

July - Rhys, the perfect boyfriend. Husband. Partner. Anchor. Looking cute.

August - Owen, looking... um, well, looking sort of stunned and dorky, despite a leather jacket with lots of zippers on it.

September - Rhys and Gwen embracing at her wedding. Awww.

October - Gwen

November - Jack and Grey, nose to nose. Actually a rather brilliant photo, though, given the personalities, I find it disturbing. (But then, "Exit Wounds" was disturbing.)

December - The team: Owen, Jack, Ianto, Tosh and Gwen. Everybody looks sexy. Jack has managed to put his hand into his pocket in such a way that his holster shows clearly. I like December.

Mow, if I were designing a calendar, I would be sure to include the following:

• Pictures of Jack and Ianto kissing.
  
• More pictures directly from the show. I'd particularly like the scene of Flat Holm, with Jack and Gwen sitting overlooking the sea.
  
• More Jack. Lots more Jack. In fact, I'd be happy to see January as Jack and John, February as Jack with Tosh, March as Martha and Jack, April as Jack solo (or with any one of the team), and so on.
  
• Certain people who weren't in series 2, like Detective Swanson and the Doctor.
  
• More variety in mood - these are all quite serious. Grim, even. I'd like a playful month, a serious month, a month showing Jack laughing, a month showing an action scene.... And did I mention the months of Jack and Ianto in each other's arms?

But no complaints. I'm happy to have my beautiful calendar.

Actually, I hadn't yet. I'd only seen a couple of them.

Those guys are so cute. I love the way they have the Right Idea. More kissing, please. Stripping is okay, too. But the kissing? That's best.

Yes! It's wonderful. It took its time in starting, but it's coming now.

I don't know if that e-mail got lost, or if I missed it in the process of going from one sort of computer access to another. (Right now, I no longer can get online from the union office, alas. So, right now, this minute, I'm in the INternet Cafe at Martin's grocery store in Lavale, Maryland, with my sister and nephew. It works for me!)
