Heroes: Angels and Monsters...

The title "Angels and Monsters" sounds like a cross between Neil Gaiman (Angels and Demons) and Doctor Who ("Love and Monsters"). Of course, this show has nice bits of inspiration from both.
There were things I liked and things I didn't like, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Bennet scenes and the suspense. In more detail:
- Papa Petrelli! At last! I never believed he was dead; I've been waiting to see him and grumbling about how long it was taking. Now here he is.
- I want Peter to be good again! I don't like a matricidal dangerous Peter!
- I don't believe for a moment that Hiro killed Ando. So what's going on? Did they stage that? Or does Hiro believe he has a way of bringing him back or saving him?
- Last season, I didn't like Adam at all. This time... I liked him with Ando and Hiro. He was a hoot. I guess it's all in the scripting.
- I didn't like Mohinder as the stupidest scientist in television. I like him even less as the monster reverse-Spider-Man who kills people with guck. Too bad he's so attractive. (And that voice.)
- Bennet rules.
- Angela Petrelli is cool, too.
- Is Lindermann a holographic projection of himself?
- I like Daphne.
- Love the dialogue between Nathan and Tracy:
Tracy: You believe we were made by God for a purpose?
Nathan: Who else could have made us?
Tracy: We were made by a doctor in Reseda. - I liked all the dialogue between Canfield and Claire; I like his power, too. I did wish he'd off Sylar, but knew there was no way he would. Loved it when Claire called Bennet a 'user'. And Sylar was smirking. Before this season I just found Sylar annoying; now I'm loving the way he's interacting.
- Love affairs in this show don't fare well. Maya's cocooned, and I don't think the odds are with Nathan and Tracy.
- Meredith and her target: scary. So why did she think she could best him? He reminds me a little of Matt's father.
- Interesting what Angela said to Nathan about his lineage. What did that mean? Was it because he was Petrelli's son? What can Petrelli do? And maybe as much to the point: what can Nathan's sons do?
- Loved seeing the broken double helix symbol outside Lindermann's building. (Or whoever's building it is. Pineshurst? Sounds like something out of Jane Eyre.

Date: 2008-10-14 05:14 am (UTC)My mouth? On the floor when that was revealed!! I so totally didn't match it up in time with the escapes and everything my how everyone involved is being PLAYED! Though, I won't complain :D Any reason to keep Malcom McDowell is fine by me~
AND OH THE PUPPET MAN THAT MEREDITH IS STUCK WITH? How creepy is that? Creepy, creepy...
I wanna slap Mohinder and Maya for alternative reasons but since they're sharing story lines I guess I could get it done in one quick motion :D Maya has horrible taste in people and Mohinder (oh how I love they've put the Sylar camera on him, similar editing to the scenes and that snake rattling sound ala Sylar's clockwork noises :D) seems to be too accepting of this on the wall with people I kidnap thing~ He's certainly accepting his dark path rather well!!

Date: 2008-10-14 10:46 am (UTC)Yeah, I like the way they're using Lindermann.
Yup, Meredith's guy is utterly creepy. How can they take him down? Too bad the Haitian can't be everywhere. But... where is he?

Date: 2008-10-14 02:03 pm (UTC)And seriously, it seems from the promos that it's gonna be both of Claire's mothers and her that'll take this guy down (how creepy he's got all the puppets and dolls in the room). That or team HRG-Sylar will bust in and save them, making Claire feel EXTRA weird again :D

Date: 2008-10-14 04:17 pm (UTC)The core base of Nathan's S1 fangirls didn't think he needed the first complete personality transplant and the second one is even more awful; but also, Nathan's fangirls as a group were really fond of the whole "how are real people with real world ambitions and lives dealing with this shit" angle, which seems to have been dropped in favour of "how insanely overpowered can we make the new villains, how many formerly sane people can we turn evil, and how many 12 year old ficwriters at FFN.net can we steal dumb ideas from?"

Date: 2008-10-14 02:26 pm (UTC)The Canadian edit must be different, because Claire never called Bennet a user. She just got out of the car upset, and Sylar smirked, because he liked coming between them. When she's talking to Bennet in the US version, she says, "He's a monster." (meaning Sylar)
Exposition dialogue is the bane of this show's existence. That whole exchange between Meredith and Sandra negates the thematic underpinning of the suffocation scene. The whole point of that scene was Meredith showing Claire her real motivation and that she can be hurt. Now, Meredith is saying Claire can't be hurt, and Sandra is trying to talk sense. The plot is writing the characters to an extent this year.

Date: 2008-10-14 02:32 pm (UTC)I desperately wanted Sylar gone in the first two volumes. Now... I like the way he's a catalyst to the actions of others. Especially Bennet and Claire.
Sadly, I don't like the theme of "good guys acting like villains and villains acting like good guys, sometimes" that they're going with. Mohinder isn't more interesting as a madman, and he's still not too bright. Peter's no fun as a villain and the born-again religious Nathan isn't what I want to see, though maybe he'll be over that now.
Maybe I misheard Claire? Didn't someone use the work 'user'? They used the word "monster" so much I was getting tired of it!

Yes, and sometimes it's just lame. Does anyone believe that Hiro would hurt Ando? Or that, if he did, he'd still be our beloved Hiro? The plot is being way too sensationalistic - which might work if it were set up better.

Date: 2008-10-14 02:56 pm (UTC)That's why I'm loving Bennet. He's intrinsically morally gray in a sea of wannabes, so he's the only character who seems to be written consistently, imo.

That was Sylar.

And by sex I don't mean Mohinder and the dumb bimbo.

Date: 2008-10-14 06:56 pm (UTC)I watch in horror as they destroy his one good quality.
Last season, I didn't like Adam at all. This time... I liked him with Ando and Hiro. He was a hoot.
I liked him last season, I just felt the story he was in dragged on too long. But I like him far more now. The writing was sparkly and snappy and fun with the three of them. I hope for more.
And I like Daphne too. I'm not sure how much yet, but I do like her.
Before this season I just found Sylar annoying; now I'm loving the way he's interacting.
I liked him as a villain before. Now I like him as a character. It's a nice change. I wanna know who his baby momma was in the future. heh

Date: 2008-10-14 07:21 pm (UTC)Perhaps they are tearing down the character in order to build him up again?

That was - surprisingly - one of the good bits.
Daphne needs to be developed more or dropped, but she's currently intriguing.
I wanna know who his baby momma was in the future.
So do I!

Precisely - lest she be this season's Maya. But I have hope for her :)
