This is a special day for me.

It was my mother's birthday. She died in 1982, of cancer. She was a delightful person and I still miss her. It's probably true to say that most of my good qualities are due to her, and most of my bad qualities are not.

It was John Lennon's birthday. I'm not sure if his philosophies influenced me; it's probably that he publicized ideas I shared. Peace, love, freedom - that sort of thing.
Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
It is the birthday of a woman I loved; still do, though I haven't seen her in years and she lives in a different country. She enhanced my life and left me with good memories.

And October 9 usually marks the loveliest part of my favourite time of year: red-leaves on the trees, an dclear, cool air. Thanksgiving - it often falls on Thanksgiving weekend, which happens to be my favourite holiday after Christmas. Not this year. I still have Thanksgiving to look forward to.

My mother's birthday was on April 23, a day which I still tend to think of as "Mother's Day". :-)

Sadly, she too died of cancer (and it was eleven years ago Saturday that she passed away). I may like this time of year, but my memories around Thanksgiving are not perfectly positive. [RIP :-(]

April 23 - that's Shakespeare's birthday, isn't it? And also my good friend [Unknown site tag]. Another auspicious day.

My mother died in November. Thoughts of her death don't make me sad, but I do miss her pretty constantly.

Oh, totally a good thing. I always like this day, and it always makes me smile to think of those three people.

Thanks for the virtual hug - *hug* back. October 9 reminds me of those three people I've loved, and it's a lovely thing to remember them.

Happy memories of your mom today! I didn't know it was also Lennon's birthday -- how cool. It's also my stepmom's birthday.

And, in case I forget, Happy Thanksgiving!! A 3 day weekend, right?

Happy birthday to your stepmom! It's a good day for a birthday. I used to call my mother "The Funny Lady" which, now I think about it, sounds a little disrespectful, but she seemed to like it - maybe because she knew I meant it with great love and affection.

I probably wouldn't remember Lennon's birthday if wasn't the same day as my mother's. As it is - it makes a nice trio of happiness for the day.

And yes, a long weekend coming up - yay! Definitely a good thing.

Today is also the birthday of my older daughter - she is 21. I refuse to accept that I am old enough to have a daughter of that age. But she is a wonder to behold.

I'm sorry you lost your mother so early, but glad that you have such positive memories that today can be a day to celebrate her place in your life rather than simply a day of mourning.

Your daughter is another Oct. 9 baby - she must be a wonderful person. All the best birthday wishes to her! What's her name?

I don't feel bad about my mother's death because I feel so lucky to have had her as a mother.

Oh man, you made me think of the Imagine memorial in Central Park in NYC, which is supposed to be a quiet place to reflect. While I was there being quiet, a giant group of tourists popped over and started taking photos LOL.

I've never seen that memorial. I'd like to. Reason #255 to go to NYC again.

Isn't it a wonderful city? I love it, too. Especially the Cloisters and Broadway.

Ugh, the Cloisters were amazing. I never would have thought that was on Manhattan.
