At some point today I wrote out my 'to do' list carefully and neatly in my little notebook that I always keep to hand. Just thinking about the enormity of the list must have exhausted me, because when I got home, instead of doing any of it, I fell onto my bed (still wearing my shoes and iPod) and slept for a full hour.

When I woke up, I made some fake Kraft Dinner ("fake" because it was no-name brand, not Kraft) and took a bowl up to [livejournal.com profile] maaseru to chat for a bit. When [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi joined us, we fell to talking about Terry Pratchett, as we often do, since we are both listening to his books. She's a few books ahead of me. I'm ... somewhere near the beginning of Jingo. There is a passage I loved, when Vimes meets the foreign prince:
The Klatchian had intelligent eyes. Disconcertingly intelligent. You looked into them and several layers of person looked back.
After a nice relaxing visit with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, I got to work on some of my list. Cleaned the fridge. I hate that job. Then got to work in the bedroom.... See, when I was looking under furniture in search of my remote (still missing), I found a scary amount of dust. Seems a good time to move shelving, sort what's on the shelves, and get rid of the dust. It was rather fun. The shelves I attacked had boxes of old slash fanzines; I can't bear to get rid of any of them, and many have my stories in them. Also old photographs, not just of me from years ago, but of my childhood and my mother's childhood. I look so much like my aunt it's spooky.

I ended up with two shelves sorted, cleaned, and now in good shape. There's lots still to do, but it's a start.

We had shocking news at work: Susan, whom I've worked with for decades - she's in charge of costumes - had a heart attack over the weekend and is in the hospital waiting for surgery now. She's only a little older than I am, in great shape, goes to the gym several times a week, eats much better than I do.

Funny thing on the bus this morning. A man got on, looked normal enough, and then immediately proceeded to take off his trousers. It wasn't indecent - turns out he was wearing trousers under his trousers. I think the problem was that his bus pass was tucked in the pocket of the bottom pair. Whatever it was, he was still undressing or dressing when I got off the bus a few stops later.

And the other day, I saw something delightful. An attractive young woman was running - there are lots of runners in this city, that's not unusual, the city's full of them. In fact, some people even come from foreign parts to run here. (With a grin and a salute to [livejournal.com profile] meri_oddities!) So I saw this woman running on Rideau Street, wearing shorts and T-shirt - and her T-shirt design was this:

Which, if you don't know, is the logo of The Flash, the fastest superhero in DC comics.

I would like the Flash so much, much more if he weren't red. I cannot deal with red. It has energy that is painful, I think. However, the Flash was a great character -- in my youth, I was very athletic, and needed to be the best at something so people wouldn't ridicule me randomly (in my mind, that would have been good, is what I'm saying); I had hopes of being just as good as the Flash, because his power was based in human abilities much more than others' were.

I do love the thought of someone choosing that logo for the shirt they wore while out running. Good for her!

On Wednesday, in or just outside of Frostburg, Maryland, I found a street named Green Lantern Lane. I am not kidding. Is that neat, or what?

Interesting about red. I have come, in recent years, to like wearing red - which I never liked or wore before. I don't know why, either way.

I've never been a big slash fan, if for no reason than that I don't like Carmine Infantino's art. There may be other reasons: I don't read DC much, he has never been dark and mysterious, and just never appealed a lot. I liked the Flash TV show, though, I think. Liked it well enough, anyway.

Green Lantern Lane! I love it!

Boy, did I have to read this over more than twice!... I've never been a big slash fan.... snicker.

Flash was not like the other comic characters, to me. He was someone I could try to someday be like, literally. A very hands-on bit of wishful thinking. I liked the Legion and the other team books (Teen Titans, also a main favorite) mainly because of the group-inclusion thing, with how everyone was accepted and welcome and all that. Which was something I didn't have.

I will take a photo of Green Lantern Lane next time I'm in Frostburg. Hee.

Red is something I can't deal with. It sometimes seems to strike me just as unwanted light sources do -- too much sensory input. Blues are much more patient and undemanding and unobtrusive. Funny, I dearly love a flame-tones brilliant yellow-orange -- but cannot tolerate red, not really. However, if you look good in it and enjoy wearing it, I can more than tolerate it. The person is more than the color. Your energy changes the red to something not too-harsh. If you can grok that.

I never really took to the Flash - he just didn't appeal particularly. Nothing wrong with him. By the time I'd really come across the character (as far as I remember) I was already deep into Marvel and he looked pretty boring. I must have encountered him in pre-Marvel days, but I don't recall it. Perhaps my local store didn't get JLA or Flash comics. I have that sort of 'not very interested ' attitude to a lot of DC characters. I liked Teen Titans when it was Wolfman and Perez doing the title, but have not otherwise paid much attention. Usually I just feel confused, not knowing very well who the characters are.

Though at least in theory, it's worth reading any comic in which Dick Grayson turns up. Is he still in Teen Titans, do you know?
