The Forbidden Kingdom and the Birthday Party That Almost Didn't Happen....

For years now, as a tradition, I've been having an annual joint birthday party with Beulah, Patrick, and Harry - we all have birthdays within the span of three weeks. We'd arranged fora party this evening at Harry's place.

But things kept going wrong; Harry's too sick from chemotherapy to participate, and Beulah has a bad cold (just like I did a week ago); and after many rearrangements of plans, finally, Lyn, Sandi, Pat and I ended up at Pat and Sandi's place this evening for our own little party. Chocolate cake included.

I had a lovely time. We watched The Forbidden Kingdom, a movie with both Jackie Chan and Jet Li - a sort of urban fantasy fairy tale. It's probably my favourite of Jackie Chan's movies, because it isn't a comedy. I found myself thinking what a great Doctor Strange movie it would be.

From Lyn I got a year's subscription to the Marvel comic Cable. From Pat and Sandi, a promissory note for the Iron Man DVD, coming out next week. (I love my friends: they play to my foibles and my not-so-guilty pleasures.) From Beulah, a book called Yogilates: Integrating Yoga and Pilates for Complete Fitness, Strength, and Flexibility. It looks so inspiring I wanted to start working on the exercises then and there. Okay, okay, I'll wait till tomorrow.
