Friday Five...
Sep. 19th, 2008 09:52 am- What did you want to be when you were a kid? - Most of the time, from earliest memory, a writer. When I was 12 and in love with Reed Richards, a scientist. I wanted to discover the negative zone.
- What is your proudest accomplishment so far? Winning a Huggy Award. Writing things that move people.
- What is your dream job? Being a historian. Or a writer.
- Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Wherever I go, there I am.
- What does it take to make you happy? Health.

Date: 2008-09-23 03:04 am (UTC)1. I first wanted to be a scientist. I still do. My mind is comfortable with the scientific method. I also wanted to be a writer, and still do (and am one!). And a lawyer, because they knew things and had authority; and a doctor, because I wanted to know enough to be able to help people; and -- maybe most of all, and most bitterly to think of it -- a baseball player or other professional athlete, and an astronaut. Both -- got shot down. Couple of decades too early for a shy girl to be taken seriously with those ideas. Screw'em.
2. Um... that, modesty and respect for another person's privacy prevents me from saying here; and, unusual for me, that is the one single proudest accomplishment. Mostly, I think/live in clusters, not in ranked lists [g]. Another high one in that cluster would be: being good enough at writing that I've been able to both gain others' respect that way, and do some good at times with it (my union newsletter, and various letters to editors). Also, the facts that I've saved the lives of several animals. And have made it a practice to stop what I'm doing to help someone, when I see that help is needed.
3. Historian, writer, and university professor in social psychology chronicling the progress of diversity rights!
4. Where I need to be.
5. Not being ridiculed. Being respected, or at least appreciated. Being able to assist rather than detract, in whatever I'm involved in. And -- having those I love be safe and happy, or at least healthy. (And having the second season of Torchwood to watch.)
Thank you!

Date: 2008-09-25 01:23 pm (UTC)Lawyer: whenever I read laws, I perish of boredom. The idea has its appeal, but I think a lawyer should have respect (or at least appeciation) for law.
I could never be an athlete or astronaut. Knew that from an early age, and never wanted to be either. Absolutely no appeal. It would be hell.
