Busy at work. The new season has started.

Watched True Blood, second episode, with [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi and [livejournal.com profile] maaseru. I'm not sure why, because I didn't much like the first episode. And I didn't much like the second episode. And I usually don't watch television unless I love it, or at least, like it more than this. So why do I think I might watch the third episode? I'm not sure. Perhaps it's the Louisiana background. Perhaps it's because Bill is a strangely romantic vampire, or because this take on vampire lore seems a little different.

Or maybe I just needed a little R&R before the new shows I really want to see start.

Wrote the rest of my zine for Apaplexy, including a lot about the Stratford Festival that I still haven't posted on LJ. Ah well.

Missed tai chi class, because my cold is still wearing me down. Random bouts of uncontrollable coughing. Beulah can teach me what I missed later.

Read some of King Hereafter, because one of the Dunnett groups is doing a reread. Suddenly got excited again about the early 11th century.

Blood Ties or True Blood? Bill is in True Blood. Blood Ties, however, while a different animal, I think I like more than True Blood. I'm watching the second season of that right now and I'm really into it.

Was I confusing vampire shows? I think I was. Shows how tired I was last night! I meant the one with Anna Paquin... True Blood.

I don't like it especially either, but do admire the subtle touches of world-building they're putting in. E. g., when the show comes on, there's a "God Hates Fangs" sign. In the 2nd episode, they showed a tabloid headline "Angelina Jolie Adopts Vampire Baby." Details like that are just out there, to be noticed. It's also a rich milieu, lots of ambiance, lore, etc. I'm just not sure how much time I actually want to spend there. The horn-dog brother is getting a bit old. I may give it a couple more episodes.

Your comments echo exactly what I feel. There's a lot there that is interesting, but not much that is really engaging the heart of putting me on the edge of my chair.

We shall see how I feel about watching the rest - taking it on an episode by episode basis.

It isn't fun the way Buffy is, but it's the first vampire TV show that has caught my interest since... since... since probably Kindred: The Embraced. (Can't even remember if I saw all of that.)
