A question meme...
Sep. 10th, 2008 09:04 pmI got this from
1. What time did you get up this morning? As always, my alarm was set for 6:50, though it was 7:00 before I pushed myself out of bed. I'm thinking of setting it for 6:30 tomorrow, which might be more practical.
2. Diamonds or pearls? Pearls. I don't like diamonds.
3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? The Dark Knight.
4. Who do you miss the most right now? ...People I loved and lost.
5. What do you usually have for breakfast? Salad, usually - a Loeb salad with romaine lettuce, bacon and cheese in it, usually with raspberry vinaigrette. And if I don't have that, I often have bacon, eggs, and toast. Or if not that, oatmeal. Or leftovers. Or sandwiches. Crepes, crumpets, peanut butter and jam on French bread. I like as much variety in breakfast as in other meals. Once a year or so I might even have cereal with milk. Don't hold your breath on that one, though.
There is an interesting assumption here: that people always have the same thing for breakfast each day. Do they?
One thing I never have is cold pizza.
6. What is your middle name? Margaret.
7. What food do you dislike? Marmite. Pickles. Vinegar.
8. What is your favorite CD John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter.
9. What kind of car do you drive? I don't.
10. Favorite sandwich? Salmon salad. Or bacon, lettuce and tomato. Or chicken salad. Or cucumber. I prefer home-made sandwiches to bought ones.
11. What characteristic do you despise? Pretentiousness.
12. Favorite item of clothing? My red Converse shoes.
13. If you could go anywhere in the world? Do places I've already been to count? I'll limit it to places I have not visited. The Queen Charlotte Islands. The Isle of Man. Crete. Zakynthos. The Sheffields. Jersey. St. Pierre and Miquelon.
14. Where would you retire to? Nova Scotia.
15.What was your most recent memorable birthday? They are all memorable. Except I don't remember all of them. Anyway, the last memorable one was last Sept. 24.
16. Furthest place you are sending this? Into the universe via electrons.
17. Person you expect to send it back first? You know, sometimes the problem with questionnaires like this is that they become very pointless and boring. I guess they want to avoid controversy - or perhaps they are meant for people who don't want to, or expect to, think? Wouldn't you rather hear about my notions of politics, religions, sociology? The times my heart was broken and the times I have triumphed over adversity? The things that really make me want to scream and the things that make me smile? Hopes, regrets, the meaning of life?
18. When is your birthday? Sept. 24.
19. Morning, evening, or night person? Can I have all three?
20. What is your shoe size? Eight and a half. Depends on the brand of shoe, though, or which foot you are measuring.
21. Pets? Three colourful and talented budgies: Logan, Jubilee and Peter.
22. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share with us? Nothing you haven't already heard.
23. What did you want to be when you were little? A writer. Always. Except when I was 12, and madly in love with Reed Richards, and I wanted to be a scientist so I could explore the Negative Zone and invent cool stuff. Funny: I was also in love with Nick Fury and Thor, but I never wanted to be a soldier or a Norse god.
25. What is your favorite flower? That's getting harder to answer every year. Iris.
26. What is a day on the calendar you are looking forward to? Sept. 24. I like my birthday. I like all birthdays. Birthdays are a way of celebrating life itself, individually and collectively.
27. What are you listening to right now? The sound of silence.
29. Do you wish on stars? No.
30. If you were a crayon, what color would it be? Is this profound? A deep, dark blue.
31. How is the weather right now? It's my favourite time of year, and delightfully seasonal: cool enough for a jacket, but just barely; highs about 15C or so. Today was just about perfect.
32. The last person you spoke to on the phone?
33. Favorite soft drink? Kinnie. By far.
34. Favorite restaurant? Daly's; Bento Sushi; Ben Ben. I used to say Mitzi's, but they closed.
35. Hair color? Brown. Sort of. A lot of salt-and-pepper grey-and-white now, but it's still basically brown.
36. What was your favorite toy as a child? My mother's silverware.
37. Summer or winter? On mild days, I don't care.
38. Chocolate or Vanilla? Vanilla.
39. Coffee or tea? Earl Grey Tea.
40. Do you want your friends to answer these questions too? Yes. I will be more interested in their answers than in my own.
41. What is your favorite dessert? Crème brulée.
42. What is under your bed? Many boxes of old comic books.
43. What did you do last night? Watched two Due South episodes with friends.
44. What are you afraid of? Mirrors. I have a mild mirror phobia. Catoptrophobia.
45. Salty or sweet? Salty. But really, I don't like either/or choices: I always want both, at least in principle.
46. How many keys on your key ring? I have two key rings, one for the theatre, one for home. Each has about half a dozen keys.
Actually, I have more keys than that, on various key rings. Those are the two I usually carry with me.
47. How many years at your current job? About thirty.
48. Do you make friends easily? No. I'm too shy.
49. How many people will you send this to? No one. I'm posting it here. Why do I get the feeling the person who made up these questions actually ran out of good questions a while back, and is just filling up space?
50. How many will respond? I'm tempted to answer this questionnaire in another persona. Could I answer it as Captain Jack? Does he prefer sweet or salty? Why does the question sound dirty when I apply it to him?
51. Do you like finding out all this stuff about your friends? Definitely.

Because of Chips?
Blow softly. Lick swiftly.
Salt on your lips. Heat in your mouth,
And warmth spreading through your body.

Date: 2008-09-11 12:27 pm (UTC)Yes. I love it. It costs less than $4, pre-made and fresh, and tastes just right. I only use half the salad dressing they provide in the packet.
Chips - yes, that must be it! (Now you've got me smiling.)

Date: 2008-09-11 02:42 pm (UTC)The Swiss breakfast sounds good to me, too. I often have cheese for breakfast, since it's so handy. And good with fruit or bread or whatever else might be around to eat.

Date: 2008-09-12 02:55 am (UTC)My ultimate breakfast was one I had in Amsterdam: besides pastries and bread and hot and cold cereals and fruit and yogurt, there was a variety of cheese (including Gouda), sliced meats, and several types of herring. Very delicious.
