I see why I didn't watch it; I tend to dislike funny stories about little towns, at least in theory. The idea doesn't appeal. (Have I mentioned recently how I hate comedies?) On the other hand, there all all sorts of actors in it whom I like, and I liked Northern Exposure - though I only saw a few episodes. So I probably would have enjoyed it. I'll watch it if I get the chance. I wonder if it will come out on DVD.

I am not a sitcom fan (the last one I watched regularly, because the ex liked it, was Night Court, which went off the air at least fifteen years ago), but I do like shows like Northern Exposure where it's ostensibly a drama but has funny stuff mixed in. Those shows tend to be the most character-oriented types on TV. BTW, I put the Doctor in that category as well. But not Torchwood, which takes itself a bit too seriously for my taste.

Netflix says it has the DVDs of Men in Trees "on order." Whether that means they're really scheduled to be made is another story. Netflix, I've discovered in the last few months since I subscribed, tends to be overly optimistic about such things.

I liked Northern Exposure because I liked some of the characters, but it still went over my tolerance limit for comedy and I found that one episode per month or less was close to my saturation level. So I don't think I watched a lot if it. I thought it was good, though.

Yes, Doctor Who is a good mix of character, adventure, and comedy. But it fits my tolerance levels well. By which I mean I can watch it over and over and still enjoy it.

I hope Netflix is right!

Well, Men in Trees was higher on the "silly" scale than Northern Exposure (IMHO, anyway), even without all the metaphysical hoo-ha (I liked the metaphysical hoo-ha, it's one of my Things, in the Kareenian sense of the term). So be forewarned.

While I like Dr. Who I don't feel the urge, as I did with Northern Exposure to make my own copies of every episode [g]. I used to look forward to Monday nights just for it.

It's such fun to find a show that gives that much entertainment satisfaction.
