I got this from [livejournal.com profile] gypsylady, and I like my results - one of my favourite countries. Of couse, you have to read "friends" for "family":

You Are Italy

You are incredibly chic. Your confidence and sense of style always shine through.

You are obsessed with presenting yourself well. You understand how much first impressions matter.

Your family is very important to you. You provide them with any emotional or financial support that they need.

But more than anything, you just enjoy spending time with your family... especially when food is shared!

That's what I should have got! I aspire to be like Italy, but I'm really much more like Canada.

Hey, I'll be in Ottawa this weekend doing a writer's workshop for Ottawa RWA-- Alicia Rasley, Writing Emotion without Sentiment. You know Nonnie, right? I'll be staying with her part of the time. Give us a call if you want to hang!

I'd love to see you! Call me! (It'd be fun to see Nonnie, too - haven't seen her in ages.) I'll email you my phone number.

I'm Denmark apparently! All about equality and laid back and happy and wealthy. I'll take that.

That does sound lovely. Denmark. Does that mean you're Greenland, too?

Well, nice to know you've kept your manners, through all that ruthless competitiveness!

Friends are family. Who says that "family" has to be blood relations, or else only certain legally-recognized relationships? Just a thought.

And, yeah, you're Italy [g].

So they say, but I see a value in having two different words and concepts for blood-relatives and chosen friends.

Ok, I see that. But right now my brain's too fried to be able to chat about it. I actually don't think there should be that kind of distinction, as too often it ends up being the basis for someone's assumption that acquired-family members are somehow not as real as blood-family members. But that's me, I'm touchy about that.

When I have no family members at all, there aren't any people to make a distinction about. So it doesn't bother me in the least.

No, you have your cousins. Cousins are good. Consanguinity is good. Shared experience, shared history.

Shared ancestors? Not much shared history; I've never lived anywhere near my cousins.
