Memories of Love
Ianto slept, his head in Jack's lap, Jack's hand against his cheek. Jack watched him, mellow from lovemaking.
He'd had lovers before - those he had loved, and those who had loved him. Estelle, Jack, John, executioners, acrobats, Rose, the Doctor... His first love, when they were both so young. Occasionally he had a keepsake: a photo, a cufflink, even a hand - the thought made him smile again. That didn't matter. Memories of love were what mattered. Every one of them precious.
He stroked Ianto's hair softly.
"As long as I live," he whispered, "you will not be forgotten."

I was amusing myself during my morning commute with "what gesture of love would I most like to see in S3", and I decided on something very similar.
Nice exercise. Hmm. For some reason I really, really love it when Jack touches Ianto's face.
I hope that Ianto's sleeping brain somehow heard Jack's whisper.
That should cause some nice dreams - a contrast to nightmares about Lisa, cannibals, Sleepers and people destroyed by the Rift.

But when does Jack touch Ianto's face? You mean in fic? Or did I miss something?

Date: 2008-09-03 04:26 pm (UTC)Yes. Not that I have any problem with the sexual, of course, but with Jack and Ianto, I want to see intimacy.
But when does Jack touch Ianto's face?
I don't think he does. I wish! No, I just meant conceptually. I was thinking he might have touched Ianto's face in "Adam", when he kissed him on the forehead, but no, he didn't. He touched him on the neck - which he does also in "End of Days" and "To the Last Man".
I'd like to see it.
Meanwhile, we can put it in fic.

Date: 2008-09-03 04:56 pm (UTC)I thought there was a perfect moment for that in "Journey's End", when Ianto collapses into his kitchen chair. Instead of brooding alone in the corner, Jack could have made himself a useful boyfriend by kneeling at Ianto's feet and holding his hands or petting his face or something.

Date: 2008-09-03 05:35 pm (UTC)Well, then - I think I was half-remembering that. I'll just have to watch it again, won't I?

I wish he had. Or even if they'd just been sitting together... Something to indicate that they were in this together, not just suffering silently. Frankly, I wanted to see Ianto comfort Jack at that point. After what he's been through, facing Daleks must be devastating for him. And even if Ianto didn't know that, it was the moment I would have liked to have seen them take comfort in each other. If Rhys had been in the room, I'm sure Gwen would have turned to him.
