I love getting a massage, but due to lack of funds, don't do it very often. In fact, my last massage was in December, 2006.

Until today.

This was thanks to dear friends who gave me a gift of a massage from Third Avenue Spa. I made my appointment for 11 a.m. this morning.

Now, I've had massages before, often enough (though not as often as I'd like). Mostly I go to Lee-Ann Solomon. This is the first time I've done it at a spa.

So: I was impressed at the treatment when I came in. It was like going to an expensive hotel. Slim, elegant young women dressed in black greeted me by name in polite, posh voices. There was a sense of elegance about it all. Artificial elegance, but elegance nonetheless. Lovely framed art in the lincoln-green bathroom, and the toiler paper in an artistic glass holder. Woo. I love a classy bathroom. Now, it wasn't quite as nice as my bathroom with its framed fannish art, but elegant, clearly elegant.

The massage? Well, I think Lee-Ann is better, but Mika gave me a lovely massage. My body felt tired and aching from all the exercise I've been doing - and maybe from other causes too. It's felt terrific every since. It felt particularly good on my damaged ankle.

Ahhh, lovely.

And thanks to those who made it possible.

They be nice to your long-suffering feet or I come after them with big stick. Not really. But I do hope your feet take well to the treatment... how is the surgery scar doing? Need any more good lotion to rub into it? And, do you notice the presence of the metal parts? Hope not.

I keep forgetting to rub my scar. Thanks for the reminder! No, I don't need more lotion. No, I don't specifically notice the metal bits. Just a stiffness and swollenness in the ankle area. Sometimes it's like a turnip on top of my foot. Sometimes just... more or less normal, but twice as thick as my other ankle.

You're welcome. Does that help it?

No, I don't specifically notice the metal bits.

Then again, it's not minus twenty outside.

I can see it and feel it. Someday your ankle will find its balance again. Do you do visualizations for it? To move the swelling elsewhere?

It's uncomfortable to touch it. The physiotherapist said it would help and I believe her. I can't perceive a difference yet.

No, I don't do visualizations of my foot. Well... not often. It probably helps but there are other things I'd rather be doing.

Yes, I can imagine. Remember when the surgeon offered to take the metal bits out, if you were bothered by them? Maybe he was thinking of this?

Like tai chi and watching clever vids done by talented fans [g]. I understand completely.

I don't think so - the incision and the metal bits aren't in the same place, exactly.

Yes, and writing.

The incision and the metal are not in the same place? Huh. And, yee-ouch.

So, where are they each? If you don't mind my asking.

Writing is such a wonderful occupation. I have been knitting my Gwen/Toshiko story together in my head during stressful and boring times at work. Stressful times calling for one sort of plotting, and boring allowing me to play with overall structure. Hee. It's coming.

Well, yes and no. It's all in or near my ankle. I don't know where the metal bits are. They're inside, connecting bone. The scar is on the outside, in the skin.

I'm thrilled to hear you're going ahead with the Gwen/Tosh story.

I'm actually fascinated by the state of your ankle... sorry, long-time delight with Erector sets and human physical capacity.

Yes, I am doing Tosh and Gwen (ahem). And the idea gives me joy. I am pleased that you are thrilled! hee, thanks.

After today - the Day From Heck -- I am so glad to be out of work! It was seven till I properly woke up; I think it was yesterday's allergy attack still lingering. And the plant manager was on a tear -- she was riding everyone, and for little or no reason! Had two different fights with our steward. Apologized after the second one. It just made everyone too keyed up and anxious, ugh. But the day is over.

Like the metal bits in my jaw... I actually now look for and read dental-implant articles, because it all fascinates me so much.

I've noticed more Tosh/Gwen stories online lately. I like this tendency. (Want to write some myself. So far I've just done stories with hints that Gwen fancies Tosh.)

Do you like cyborgs?
