Lake in the Mountains
Jack and Pike went fishing, under the wide Montana sky.
Pike was a quiet man who loved stories. Jack heard myths of Pike's culture: dancing maidens becoming constellations. Jack related misadventures among the stars: Time Agents, executioners, a wandering Police Box.
As the sun sank over pink Maxfield Parish mountains, their stories became more personal. Pike talked about Henry, his schoolmate. Twenty years of yearning, and Pike still couldn't forget him. Jack told about the lonely god who left him on a Game Station among corpses and Dalek dust.
"Soldier," said Pike.
"Yeah," said Jack.
They sat in comfortable silence.

I bask in your wonderful comments. Thank you.

Date: 2008-08-09 06:14 am (UTC)My kind of fishing is like this: First, no bait on the hooks. Then, don't even really bother to cast the lines out. Just find a nice spot on the edge of the water, settle in, and breathe and be happy and do basically nothing constructive for ... oh, several hours.
Ok?
I'm sure screwing up this verbal interaction thing lately. Sigh.
