Last night maaseru and I went for spaghetti bolognese at a restaurant just south of South Keys, near Bank and Hunt Club. It's called the KS Restaurant - yes, really - which I find amusing since both maaseru and I are old-time K/S fans from the early days of slash.
It was good, too. First time I ever went there was with a bunch of Horatio Hornblower fans - which was fun. Another fannish connection, though of course my life is full of such things.
Treet is like Spam, but highly processed. Like bologna (aka boloney, around here) (or, to be fully accurate, "jumbo"). The meat in it has been pureed, basically, and it has a very smooth texture. Goodness knows what's actually in it. It tastes pretty good, tho'. Putting chunks of it into your spaghetti sauce is just about like chunking up an unsliced piece of bologna.
Never run across Treet...? Another Pennsylvania thing, perhaps?
I'm not starving any longer, btw. Had delicious sweet corn. Tender! Fresh! I am happy.
Bologna -- how do you pronounce that word? I say "baloney." Most people around here do. And when you get it around here, you can just ask for "jumbo" and people know what you mean -- there was a local brand called Jumbo Balogna and it caught on like "kleenex" or "xerox."
I have some sweet corn at my house yet to be enjoyed, and my cats like it too -- they see me with an ear and come close, looking eager, and I bite off some kernels and give it to them... yum, organic cat food.
I remember getting pizza from KS twenty-some years ago, when we were playing D&D at a home in the area. The food was decent, and I remember being amused by the name.

Did you finally get your spaghetti bolognese?
Yes, and it was delicious, too. A very rich meat sauce. There was enough left over for my lunch today, too.

Stop It!
Date: 2008-08-02 02:38 am (UTC)Isn't spaghetti bolognese when you don't have any ground beef in the house, and make it with little chunks of Treet instead...?

We have bologna, but I've never heard of putting it in spaghetti sauce.
Sweet corn season is on us! Lovely.

I say 'baloney' too unless I'm talking about a city in Italy. Doesn't everyone?
