In this post I was talking about John Barrowman's TV show The Making of Me about what makes a person gay. We'd been complaining that being gay was treated as an either/or thing, probably for the purposes of simplicity in a one-hour TV show.

Today [livejournal.com profile] laurab1 posted the text of an interview he did for Attitude magazine in which they asked him, "What was your personal highlight of this show?" He answered:
...What I discovered was that what makes me a gay man might not make you a gay man. Which really made me jump for joy. Because it proves even more that we're all individuals.

Ah! Oh, yeah.

Infinite diversity in infinite combination. Another direct similarity between gender variation and the autistic/neurotypical spectrum, hm? Just a thought!

People are both alike and unalike in a very large and complex number of ways; I tend to say 'it's all biochemistry', which doesn't mean it's all genetic: we're creating and re-creating our own biochemistry all the time.
