Coming back from physiotherapy today, my Para Transpo driver had an 'English is not my native language' accent and a colourful way of talking. He was telling me about an accident on the Queensway: "He must be dead, the driver. The car is like Pepsi." He had opinions on everything, and a philosophical bent. He pointed out the rainbow-stripe design on a car in front of us. "That is not a normal flag. That is the gay emblem."

"I think it's great," I said. And I did - the rainbow design looks good on a shiny black car.

My physiotherapist, Robyn, said the Foot is doing very well but that my balance is terrible, partly due to flat feet. She had questions about the effects of scleroderma on my left foot; I really wasn't sure what to say about the extent of the damage. The other Foot doesn't feel as if it's doing well - sore, limping at only a fraction of my former speed. But I ran into Hildegarde on the street at lunchtime and she said I was walking very well. I suppose it depends on your perspective; she probably expected me to still be on crutches.

So Robyn gave me some horrendous balance and foot-strengthening exercises, and another appointment for next week.

I can shudder in empathy at your driver's description of the accident; alas, I too have seen cars that looked like crushed soda-pop cans, and have sent a prayer towards the occupants (and their relatives) when I do. It makes me feel less bad, to do so. But I still feel bad to have seen such a thing.

I bet the rainbow flag looked good on a shiny black car! Ooo! My car is silver, bummer. I wanted electric blue, but had to settle for what they had in stock. My rainbow decal looks good on it, regardless.

So, is Robyn now your therapist for good? Debbie is having too much fun on the cruise, and won't be back? Just wondering. You and Debbie have history, now, and it would be nice if she could see you through all the way to your final success.

I've wondered myself if the scleroderma had some lasting effect on your left foot. Because the sole of your left foot is different than the sole of your right foot. Which I'm sure you know. And I've always wondered if that had something to do with the plantar fasciitis...?

As for the balance exercises: you're in training again! You can do this. How much have you done already? How far have you brought yourself? Heck, yes, you can do this.

Would trying to follow along with the Qi Gong tape maybe help you in working on your balance? My first thought was to say kickboxing, but I know you have Qi Gong right in hand [g].

Rainbow decals tend to look good on anything. In my opinion. [g]

No, Robyn is still filling in for Debbie. I will see Debbie on July 28. I don't know about after that - depends whether she thinks it's worthwhile seeing me again.

My feet and ankles have always been very different. Not that I pay much attention. I can't even remember now which foot had the plantar fasciitis. I think it was the right. Perhaps the right foot and leg compensate for weakness in the left?

Note to self: remember to balance today.

And yes, the Qi Gong tape. I keep running out of time to do it (or a yoga tape) in the evenings. Can't stay up late. Hard to shoehorn everything in, especially when I make gazpacho or something for supper, and then have cleaning up to do afterwards.
