An odd day.

I lost my job today, though it'll be a year before my position is eradicated. They are 'restructuring'. Not just me; all the full-time theatre staff.

Not exactly a surprise.

Now I have to figure out what to do. Job-hunting has never been my favourite thing.

Oh, dear. I'm sorry. Here's hoping something new and wonderful comes your way soon.

Nice icon, btw.

Yes. I think I'd like a change. The question is: to what?

At least I have time to think about it.

Nice icon, btw.

Thank you! It's by the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] rabecka.

Sigh. I'm sorry to hear that. (Having been laid off back in late April or early May, I was not happy about it either.)

Wishing you all the best in your belated job hunting ...

That sucks - but at least you have a year to search for a new job.

Yes, a year to search. And think.

Trying not to worry too much.

Hugs, Far! I hate jobhunting too. And a year's notice, good, but does that mean a year of jobhunting???

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
I don't know if it means a year of jobhunting - depends what I find, and when!

Oh, HON.

But, as everyone said, you have a year. I assume if you find something good you could go sooner?

You bet!

Thanks for the links and thanks even more for the hugs. I'll need a shoulder to cry on, I'm sure, and moral support to go with it. But at the moment... cautious optimism.

Oh no! :( I'm sorry to hear that. But as everyone is saying, thank goodness you have time to look around. I'm glad you feel possible about the change.

My best!

You'll do fine, and definitely, a year to look is excellent.

This can't bode well for the theater...

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
No, it doesn't bode well for the theatre, unfortunately.

And a year... well, a lot can happen, and it eases the sense of desperation.

Oh, wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. Still, it's good that you can be upfront and honest about your job searching. Makes it easier to ease yourself out of one workplace and into another.

I'm thinking lots of job friendly thoughts for you.

Ugh. Yeah, depressing and disappointing, but alas, so unsurprising in the arts. I'm sorry, that really sucks.

The long lead time is an advantage in that you don't have to take the first thing that comes along unless it really suits you. But it's not going to feel that way for a while. :(

You said a mouthful there. Really.

Yes, the lead time is good. But there's a psychological hurdle... suddenly not belonging somewhere any more feels odd.

Thank you for saying this: it encourages me. And I need encouragement. Sometimes I think I have no skills at all. Then I realize what I actually can do. So - the postive attitude helps.

Sadly – and I speak from personal experience – a happy ending of that kind is unlikely once you are past 40 and have not worked in academia for some years. I found that interviews for a first academic post dried up after I turned 30. I'm now an office temp, but at least in a university.
