Doctor Who and sushi...
Jul. 9th, 2008 08:36 pmThis evening I was at a sushi restaurant with Marcelle, Sushi Kan on Baseline Road, and the people at the table next to us were talking about the Doctor Who episode 'Journey's End'. It sounds so very like the conversations here on my LJ! I was amused. They were talking about how they always liked Sarah Jane, and how good it was to see her again. They were speculating on what the human Doctor might have whispered to Rose at Bad Wolf Bay, and saying how Jackie didn't have much of a role in the episode, though it was good to see her, and it was always good to see Captain Jack. They continued by saying that Torchwood was a second-rate knock-off of Doctor Who and they didn't bother watching it.
It amused me mightily that at two different tables in one Ottawa restaurant people were discussing an episode of a TV show that won't be aired in this country until December - or later.
Their conversation reminded me of another spoiler I'd read, a quote from Noel Clarke to the effect that he didn't plan to be taking on the role of Mickey again, which would contradict the implication at the end of 'Journey's End' that Mickey and Martha were going off to Torchwood with Jack. I'd be just as happy if Mickey isn't in Torchwood, actually. Or it could be that he's lying. Who knows?
Another bit of spoiler-info that just came my way is that the Brigadier is going to be The Sarah Jane Adventures. I've never seen the Brigadier in my life but I do love UNIT as a plot vehicle - so I'm happy! Since he seems to be a popular character, I'm glad to see the Brigadier, too. See what I think.
I do hope they rebuild the Valiant.
So I was telling
"No problem," I said, "I'm always happy to talk about Doctor Who."
Oh, and a bit of good news - the voice in her GPS system is named Jack.

Date: 2008-07-10 03:46 am (UTC)I actually heard that another person maybe joining the team as Tech support...someone last seen wandering off into the sunset to see why Jack loves this planet so much.
But thats speculation, again I live in DETROIT and nowhere near Cardiff, so I can't say I've got my ear that well to the ground.

(of course that might be that I feel that way because they're the chars I identify with the most.
I just really hope we do get him on Torchwood, with Owen gone, I need a new fave guy to see Jack with.

And I'd totally love to see Captain John back, maybe not for every episode, but often.

Date: 2008-07-18 11:11 am (UTC)I was initially against the idea of Mickey joining Torchwood, mainly because I can't see him fitting into the tone of the show or the team, and it seemed like TPTB were bring in Mickey and Martha as part of the 'family' orientation they seem bent on pursuing.
However, seeing him again in Journey's End, he did seem more grown-up, particularly with his interaction with the Doctor (and dare I say it - sexier? I loved the scene with him kissing his gun goodbye and his hug and banter with Jack). It will be interesting.

Date: 2008-07-18 11:53 am (UTC)It certainly is! Used to be that only a handful of people in Canada had even heard of Doctor Who, even though it's broadcast here. That seems to have changed, now. Good!

Me too. The just might do something interesting with him: though no one got a lot of focus on 'Journey's End', he managed to show considerable personality and style. If it increases the level of banter, I'm all for it.
I'd rather have Jake on the Torchwood team, though.
