Many very distressing and bad things have happened lately, but I don't want to talk about them. The good things? Well - I have a beautiful, beautiful new computer that is faster and better and even cheaper than I had dreamed or hoped. I have a new refrigerator.
I have at last reached the point where my ankle is enough better that I can move around my apartment freely, albeit with a terrific limp. I cooked a meal yesterday. I have rearranged and cleaned up my living room as I do desperately wanted to do, and vacuumed all by myself. I have new clothes so I can look good.
Good times, bad times. It's the way life goes.

Date: 2008-07-07 03:01 am (UTC)But yay for new appliances?
And walking. Walking is sooooo underrated.

Walking is sooooo underrated.
Ooooh yes. Even when it hurts, it's wonderful.

Date: 2008-07-07 03:15 am (UTC)New computer, too! Yow! This is too nice. On top of the living room clean-up, which I know was a major item on your mental list for a very long time, and -- whoa, the new refrigerator is there too? Great! So, the door will stay shut on its own, now? Always a good thing.
Moving with a limp is an experience that can't be described very well to someone who has never had to do it. It may not be that each step brings pain, nor that each step exposes the weakness of some part of that leg or foot, or then again it might be -- but the fact remains, for right now, that is how you walk. The thing to try to do is not to let your body get used to doing that, or when the ankle does strengthen and regain more flexibility, it might try to keep being favored. You will find this out on your own, I know. Or Debbie will tell you. I bet she'll be impressed with your progress, by the way!
More hugs. For whatever it is. I don't have to know. Love you.

Date: 2008-07-07 08:50 pm (UTC)Yes, and there will be floor repairs in a couple of weeks, then more in August. This is all good stuff.
And the refrigerator door stays shut, and the freezer is about twice the size.

Date: 2008-07-08 03:05 am (UTC)Freezer space is always good. What color is the new fridge? "Avocado," by chance?

Date: 2008-07-08 11:48 pm (UTC)It was awful, really. And then I didn't do anything about it, and then they didn't... Now it's a mess, a pile of rubble in the corner of my living room where it ought to be beautiful flooring. Well! It'll be okay in a while.
No, the fridge is just plain white. Snowlike.

Date: 2008-07-10 10:28 pm (UTC)To be specific, messing up two of my bookcases. I had thought they were safely moved out of range. Not so. I took the books off them last night, and found that much dampness existed, alas. Know any ways to dry out damp books, remove the moldy smell? Sigh! And... well, the bottom shelf on the one bookcase got so damp that it fell apart under the weight of the books. I may have to just throw it out. (It's wood; there will be a bonfire to mark its passing!) I was much surprised.
I am glad that your broken-up flooring will soon be neat and pretty again. Wish me luck on my damp corner!

Good luck in drying out your damp spot!

Date: 2008-07-13 04:53 am (UTC)Thanks for the good wishes. I think it would help if one could dig away outside and then coat the foundation stones with something...! Quite a quandary, really.

Date: 2008-07-13 01:23 pm (UTC)When I was living on Carling, some of the books by the window got mouldy. Black mould. There was nothing to do but pitch them.

Date: 2008-07-07 08:58 pm (UTC)Yeah. Why do they sometimes happen together - in clusters? or patterns?
Yes, thank goodness for good fannish stuff.
'Dalek' foreshadows qualities of writing and characterization still to come.

Date: 2008-07-07 12:56 pm (UTC)New computer is very shiny indeed. Smart and fast. Hid all my picture folders where I couldn't find them for a while, which was disconcerting. How can I live without my collection of Barrowman or Marsters pictures?
New fridge: it holds so very much. And it's pretty. (Note to self: clean it regularly.)
The ankle: yes! The physiotherapist tells me to go for more walks, and longer walks. With pleasure!

PS Icon is Gerard Way, singer and frontman of the band My Chemical Romance, comic book author and generally amazing and inspiring guy. I have, um, completely lost my heart to him. He's also very VERY pretty. I intend a pic spam at some point.

Date: 2008-07-07 06:51 pm (UTC)I love it. I keep obsessing over it - it's so fast! so easy to use!
My pc is giving me trouble - it's basically ancient and overloaded
That was my situation. It was a wonderful little machine, but not new - chugging away with all the work I was giving it, getting slower and slower, crashing rather too often. The other day it wouldn't boot up. I decided the time had come; I'd put off the purchase too long.
My bank balance (or lack thereof) is yet another of my worries. But hte computer seemed... worth the money that I have not got.
Can I just say that I think you've coped admirably with the whole Foot Thing? I really do. ::hugs you::
Aw, thank you. I just went shopping, and it's a hot day, and the Foot is complaining loudly - but I coped, and survived, and didn't fall over! I got a bathtub mat so I won't slip in the shower when I starting having stand-up showers again. I'm looking forward to that.

Yes! I thought he lookeds familiar! I love Gerard Way too. I even bought all the issues of his comic book because his music was so interesting. Please picspam. I heard there was a documentary show about his career - do you know anything about that?

Date: 2008-07-08 12:36 pm (UTC)Eeee! OMG!! I am squeeing so loudly that you can probably hear me in Ottawa! There's nothing like finding out that's one's friends are sympathetic to one's latest obsessions. :)
I love MCR's music - I started with The Black Parade, which I love, and am currently finding that Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is the only thing I want to listen to. Repeatedly. And I'll no doubt obsess over their first album at a later stage. I haven't been so enthralled by anyone's music for such a long time. Most of it I've bought on cd, but I've also managed to get hold of mp3s of the rarer stuff like this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Rare-My-Chemical-Romance/dp/B000WPP9BI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215517929&sr=8-1).
I'm not aware of a documentary - unless you mean Life on the Murder Scene which has a two-hour feature that covers MCR (not just Gerard) from their beginnings to just before The Black Parade. It's required viewing if you're a fan. :)
And then there's The Black Parade is Dead! cd and dvd. I've only had time to watch the Maxwell's show, but it was amazing, and I'm more in love with them than ever.
Did you like The Umbrella Academy? I actually had to stop reading in order to giggle hysterically several times in just the first few pages. The wrestling Giant Squid! Sir Reginald Hargreeves the Alien! The key to the city - and Ice Cream! - as a reward for saving Paris! Such inspired lunacy. Oh, Gerard and his crazy brain! I could almost hear him giggling at the gleefully silly titles he'd thought up for each volume. One of the things I really like about it is that we're thrown into the middle of the story and while some things become clearer, a huge number of things are still unexplained at the end. But they're hopefullyclear in Gerard's head! I have a couple of links to interviews which I'll post in another comment from home.
And shall definitely picspam as soon as I can find the time. Yay!

Date: 2008-07-09 01:31 am (UTC)Most of my friends haven't even heard of him. And I love the way you and I so often hone in on the same objects of interest - it isn't infallible, but there's a lot of overlap!
I haven't been so enthralled by anyone's music for such a long time.
Me neither. Or as fascinated by the mystique of a band.

That might be what I heard about.
Did you like The Umbrella Academy?
Oh, yes, I certainly did. Quirky.
One of the things I really like about it is that we're thrown into the middle of the story and while some things become clearer, a huge number of things are still unexplained at the end.
Yes, and I like the way neither the themes, the characters nor the plot were predictable. They were what they were. And what visual sense of - of - I'm not sure what, but wildly imaginative.

Oh, good! Please!

so is the continued recovery of the ankle!
For sure. Mobility is so important. I can feed myself, keep myself clean, walk across the room without undue time, pain and effort. It's wonderful.
Love and hugs (and cheeps).
Thank you! Hugs from me, cheeps from the Little Feathered Guys - who are watching very intently as I type this. Probably making sure I get it right.
