Many very distressing and bad things have happened lately, but I don't want to talk about them. The good things? Well - I have a beautiful, beautiful new computer that is faster and better and even cheaper than I had dreamed or hoped. I have a new refrigerator.

I have at last reached the point where my ankle is enough better that I can move around my apartment freely, albeit with a terrific limp. I cooked a meal yesterday. I have rearranged and cleaned up my living room as I do desperately wanted to do, and vacuumed all by myself. I have new clothes so I can look good.

Good times, bad times. It's the way life goes.

You're a far more sensible person than most, so kudos to that too~ I hope the good times roll a bit longer this time around.

Keep getting better. :)

Thank you, I plan to!

Walking is sooooo underrated.

Ooooh yes. Even when it hurts, it's wonderful.

Sometimes one wants to talk about the bad things, sometimes one doesn't. Do what you need to do. I'll hug you all the same.

New computer, too! Yow! This is too nice. On top of the living room clean-up, which I know was a major item on your mental list for a very long time, and -- whoa, the new refrigerator is there too? Great! So, the door will stay shut on its own, now? Always a good thing.

Moving with a limp is an experience that can't be described very well to someone who has never had to do it. It may not be that each step brings pain, nor that each step exposes the weakness of some part of that leg or foot, or then again it might be -- but the fact remains, for right now, that is how you walk. The thing to try to do is not to let your body get used to doing that, or when the ankle does strengthen and regain more flexibility, it might try to keep being favored. You will find this out on your own, I know. Or Debbie will tell you. I bet she'll be impressed with your progress, by the way!

More hugs. For whatever it is. I don't have to know. Love you.

Yes, and there will be floor repairs in a couple of weeks, then more in August. This is all good stuff.

And the refrigerator door stays shut, and the freezer is about twice the size.

You are talking about the wood-piece flooring? Yes, this is good. That is very pretty, and it was too bad that it started to come apart like that.

Freezer space is always good. What color is the new fridge? "Avocado," by chance?

It was awful, really. And then I didn't do anything about it, and then they didn't... Now it's a mess, a pile of rubble in the corner of my living room where it ought to be beautiful flooring. Well! It'll be okay in a while.

No, the fridge is just plain white. Snowlike.

I feel for you. Last night I tackled a clean-up in the corner of my back living room, the one that is a closed-in porch -- that is, it sits not on foundation, but on a concrete slab under the flooring. The one corner leaks water. I have a dehumidifier going there nonstop. I recently found out that the problem is that the wall itself is leaking: the back yard is where the well and cistern are, and the gound near the foundation is sopping wet! For instance, yesterday I pulled out jewel-weed there: the stalks were over an inch across (jewel-weed rarely gets bigger around than a pencil; it grows in pervasively damp ground) (and its juice is good for poison ivy, fyi). This was a veritable jewel-weed garden! And, right inside from that spot, seeping moisture messing up my living room.

To be specific, messing up two of my bookcases. I had thought they were safely moved out of range. Not so. I took the books off them last night, and found that much dampness existed, alas. Know any ways to dry out damp books, remove the moldy smell? Sigh! And... well, the bottom shelf on the one bookcase got so damp that it fell apart under the weight of the books. I may have to just throw it out. (It's wood; there will be a bonfire to mark its passing!) I was much surprised.

I am glad that your broken-up flooring will soon be neat and pretty again. Wish me luck on my damp corner!

If the books are actually mouldy, there's no solution except to trash them, or the mould will spread. I had to do that when I was in the basement apartment on Carling. If it's just damp but not mouldy (and smells okay), you can put tissues between the pages, or use a hairdrying on the individual pages.

If you get dampness, things rot.

Good luck in drying out your damp spot!

From: [identity profile] walkingowl.livejournal.com
Hmm. Thanks for the tips. I will try to save the books -- hoping no mold, just damp. But, alas, the corner smells musty, so... doesn't look good.

Thanks for the good wishes. I think it would help if one could dig away outside and then coat the foundation stones with something...! Quite a quandary, really.

Date: 2008-07-13 01:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
Smelling musty is not a good sign, but the book might still be salvagable.

When I was living on Carling, some of the books by the window got mouldy. Black mould. There was nothing to do but pitch them.

Booo to bad things. I have had some bad things thrown at me of late, though they may not be comparative. Thank goodness for Doctor Who on side reel, good manga, good books and Harry Potter marathons on TV. :p

PS I'm just now watching the Dalek episode.

Yes, thank goodness for good fannish stuff.

New computer is shiny. So is a new fridge, though more mundane. And it's excellent news that your ankle is getting so much better.

Thanks for the hugs. Bad things... well, they happen. And some of them are fears rather than actual happenstances, so I am trying to hope for the best.

New computer is very shiny indeed. Smart and fast. Hid all my picture folders where I couldn't find them for a while, which was disconcerting. How can I live without my collection of Barrowman or Marsters pictures?

New fridge: it holds so very much. And it's pretty. (Note to self: clean it regularly.)

The ankle: yes! The physiotherapist tells me to go for more walks, and longer walks. With pleasure!

Yay for the new pc! And the new fridge is good too, if not quite as exciting... *g* My pc is giving me trouble - it's basically ancient and overloaded, which is worrying because a new one would make a sizeable dent in my already not very impressive bank balance.

Can I just say that I think you've coped admirably with the whole Foot Thing? I really do. ::hugs you::

PS Icon is Gerard Way, singer and frontman of the band My Chemical Romance, comic book author and generally amazing and inspiring guy. I have, um, completely lost my heart to him. He's also very VERY pretty. I intend a pic spam at some point.

Yay for the new pc!

I love it. I keep obsessing over it - it's so fast! so easy to use!

My pc is giving me trouble - it's basically ancient and overloaded

That was my situation. It was a wonderful little machine, but not new - chugging away with all the work I was giving it, getting slower and slower, crashing rather too often. The other day it wouldn't boot up. I decided the time had come; I'd put off the purchase too long.

My bank balance (or lack thereof) is yet another of my worries. But hte computer seemed... worth the money that I have not got.

Can I just say that I think you've coped admirably with the whole Foot Thing? I really do. ::hugs you::

Aw, thank you. I just went shopping, and it's a hot day, and the Foot is complaining loudly - but I coped, and survived, and didn't fall over! I got a bathtub mat so I won't slip in the shower when I starting having stand-up showers again. I'm looking forward to that.

Yes! I thought he lookeds familiar! I love Gerard Way too. I even bought all the issues of his comic book because his music was so interesting. Please picspam. I heard there was a documentary show about his career - do you know anything about that?

Eeee! OMG!! I am squeeing so loudly that you can probably hear me in Ottawa! There's nothing like finding out that's one's friends are sympathetic to one's latest obsessions. :)

I love MCR's music - I started with The Black Parade, which I love, and am currently finding that Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is the only thing I want to listen to. Repeatedly. And I'll no doubt obsess over their first album at a later stage. I haven't been so enthralled by anyone's music for such a long time. Most of it I've bought on cd, but I've also managed to get hold of mp3s of the rarer stuff like this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Rare-My-Chemical-Romance/dp/B000WPP9BI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215517929&sr=8-1).

I'm not aware of a documentary - unless you mean Life on the Murder Scene which has a two-hour feature that covers MCR (not just Gerard) from their beginnings to just before The Black Parade. It's required viewing if you're a fan. :)

And then there's The Black Parade is Dead! cd and dvd. I've only had time to watch the Maxwell's show, but it was amazing, and I'm more in love with them than ever.

Did you like The Umbrella Academy? I actually had to stop reading in order to giggle hysterically several times in just the first few pages. The wrestling Giant Squid! Sir Reginald Hargreeves the Alien! The key to the city - and Ice Cream! - as a reward for saving Paris! Such inspired lunacy. Oh, Gerard and his crazy brain! I could almost hear him giggling at the gleefully silly titles he'd thought up for each volume. One of the things I really like about it is that we're thrown into the middle of the story and while some things become clearer, a huge number of things are still unexplained at the end. But they're hopefullyclear in Gerard's head! I have a couple of links to interviews which I'll post in another comment from home.

And shall definitely picspam as soon as I can find the time. Yay!

Most of my friends haven't even heard of him. And I love the way you and I so often hone in on the same objects of interest - it isn't infallible, but there's a lot of overlap!

I haven't been so enthralled by anyone's music for such a long time.

Me neither. Or as fascinated by the mystique of a band.

I'm not aware of a documentary - unless you mean Life on the Murder Scene which has a two-hour feature that covers MCR

That might be what I heard about.

Did you like The Umbrella Academy?

Oh, yes, I certainly did. Quirky.

One of the things I really like about it is that we're thrown into the middle of the story and while some things become clearer, a huge number of things are still unexplained at the end.

Yes, and I like the way neither the themes, the characters nor the plot were predictable. They were what they were. And what visual sense of - of - I'm not sure what, but wildly imaginative.

I have a couple of links to interviews which I'll post in another comment from home.

Oh, good! Please!

It's a dream. So well behaved, so quick and efficient. A joy to write with.

so is the continued recovery of the ankle!

For sure. Mobility is so important. I can feed myself, keep myself clean, walk across the room without undue time, pain and effort. It's wonderful.
