The Jupiter Cruise
When the twins reached their tenth birthdays, Grandpa Ianto took them on a luxury-liner cruise around the Jupiter space colonies.
They loved hearing about his exciting past. "Is it true there was no space travel when you were little, Grandpa?"
"Only in fiction," said Ianto. "I knew men who'd been off-planet, but only because of my work."
"Torchwood!" said Paola proudly. "Before everything changed."
"You worked there," said Bastien. "You knew Captain Jack."
"You loved Captain Jack," said Paola, who was turning into a romantic.
Ianto smiled, looking at the stars. "I loved him very much, and I always will."

Date: 2008-06-23 12:47 am (UTC)I love unexpected jumps forward in time, I love having characters appear so comfortable in unexpectedly non-typical circumstances, and I love space travel ... and I love the Ianto/Captain Jack connection.
Nice touch. I already know you're good... this reminds me, happily! Thank you.

Date: 2008-06-24 03:40 am (UTC)...I guess that fits Jack. But I still feel sad. Is that how it must be? Is it best for everyone that it be that way? (Is it possible that I am even more of a hopeless romantic than you are?)

Date: 2008-06-24 12:09 pm (UTC)No, no, no. Of course not. And you'll notice that other stories I write, or drabbles, have a different scenario. It's not that way because if *must* be that way, it's that way because I want it that way - at least for the space of this drabble.
In a more general way, I want Jack with the Doctor (not necessarily full time) and Ianto happy, however that works out.
Is it best for everyone that it be that way?
I don't understand what that part of your question means.
(Is it possible that I am even more of a hopeless romantic than you are?)
No, that's not possible, but it's possible that you like the Jack/Ianto pairing more than I do. Probable, in fact. Which is okay. Lots of people like it best.
