fajrdrako: Ninth Doctor - Christopher Eccleston ([Doctor Who])

I was most impressed by this site about making Morsbags. What a good idea. I can't think of any downside to it. Recycling and a useful product in a good cause.

I could do that.

I will do that, when I have enough mobility to use my sewing machine.

As it is, I could do it by hand now... I think.

I'd make the handles a little longer, though.

The link doesn't work. What's a "Morse bag"?

See http://www.morsbags.com/html/ . The basic idea is to convert old fabric (an old bedsheet, for example) into a fabric bag similar to the reusable shopping bags that grocery stores are selling.

Oops. Is it better now?

A Morse bag is a home made cloth shopping bad.

Links fixed, I think. Some days I just can't type.

Thanks! I found it through Google. I don't have a sewing machine, but my sister does -- maybe I can get her to let me use hers. Thanks for the heads up!

Since I can't do a thing with my sewing machine right now, I was thinking I could just do it with hand-stitching. A simple pattern; everything else would be the same, I'd just slip-stitch all the edges. It would take longer, but wouldn't be an inferior product.

But maybe I'll wait till I'm mobile again, for simplicity's sake.

I like to sew; I like the idea.

I've always sewn things by hand, but I'm not sure I'm motivated enough in this case. (I already have several nice grocery totes.) :-) But if I can get to use the sewing machine, I might get going finally on recovering my chair cushions, making/covering a matching ottoman, and making curtains.

I have a TON of old fabric hanging around. I could make these in quantity :D

Yes - all of the above!

It's sort of odd, but every time I go to physiotherapy at the Riverside Hospital I admire the curtains they have in the rooms and covet them. They're sort of sponge-painted designs in deep and pale blue, and some of the curtains include lavender.

I have curtains from Ikea that are quite nice, a design with green leaves and red berries, but it isn't "me" in the same way, it's just adequate.

Maybe I should try buying from a hospital supply place. Who picks the curtains in a hospital, anyway?

I got rid of a bunch of my old fabric recently - I'm wishing now I hadn't. But I know I still have some. It's just a matter of getting the mobility to look in my closets or my locker for it!

Isn't piffle great? I copied the download to harddrive, but I intend to add a gusset so it has a flat bottom.

Piffle is wonderful. Truly. I come across things there I would never normally stumble across. I love it.

I intend to add a gusset so it has a flat bottom.

I was thinking exactly the same thing! It would be very simple to add.

As do we all. Someone was making the point that they can be made and given away, or made and sold very cheaply, to those who don't have them. All as a replacement for plastic.

Currently, I am very, very dependent on plastic bags - I can't carry things in my hands so I put them in bags and can hold them while using crutches. And I need everything I can find for trash.

My friends Marion and Vicky were saying yesterday that they've been using the same canvas bag for twelve years now. It's very dirty - looks like something Indiana Jones might have used, roughed-up cloth - that gives it character! Must be very sturdy.

I was wondering about making bags of old jeans by sewing the legs together. Not by hand - that kills the fingers - but it could be done. Hmm.

How do you feel about the Baltimore Consort, Ensemble Galilei, Mediaeval Baebes, Altramar, or Piffaro? More music to heal by can be readily forthcoming, the better to "foot it merrily" with. :)

Oh, yes, please!

Esp. Mediaeval Baebes. But I love all of the above except Piffaro, which I don't know.
