I just read the list of the top 100 Hot Guys from afterelton.com, and am of course pleased to see John Barrowman in the #2 spot. Right behind Jake Gyllenhall, by a narrow margin, which shows good taste on the voters' part. And John's cheeky comment: "I’m thrilled with the results. Who wouldn’t want to come in behind Jake Gyllenhaal?" Point. I've heard him say before how he finds Gyllenhall really sexy. Well. Who wouldn't?

And love the quote from Gareth David-Lloyd, who was #6: "I understand I'm underneath John Barrowman, which seems to happen quite a lot. Maybe, next year, Ianto can be on top." I suspect David-Lloyd is taking Barrowman lessons in smart-ass sexiness. Bad influence, in the nicest way. And even better:
How does David-Lloyd feel about being one half of television’s most visible same-sex couples? In our interview with him he explained, "I’m one of these people of that age where it’s just not an issue, and it never has been." Now that's sexy.
Indeed. Though I don't think it's a matter of age; it's a matter of temperament.

As with most such lists, I hadn't heard of a lot of the people featured, and a fair number I find most unattractive. But the others - well. Aside from Barrowman and Gyllenhall, I would put on my own list Clive Owen (who is #71), Gerard Butler #41, Johnny Depp #40, Milo Ventimiglia #38, Jonathan Rhys Meyers #36, David Tennant #33, Daniel Craig #16 and David Beckham #12, on my list. And I might add, that's a mighty fine picture of Jamie Bamber in a towel at #35. And good to see Chad Allen as #56.

On a hunch that afterellen.com might have posted their new 2008 list too - and they have - I am happy to see Sarah Shahi at #7, Lena Headey #10, Keira Knightley at #31 (though I wouldn't know her from this picture), Katee Sachoff #33, Kate Beckinsale #40, Alyson Hannigan #59, Kristen Bell #71, and Grace Park #90 (though I'd put her at #2). Some of the others I don't like, but most of them I've simply never seen.

I wonder why afterelton.com counted down from #100 and afterellen.com counted up from #1. Is there some deep gender-differentiation dichotomy there? (I wish I knew a similar site for bi people - is there one?)

Sometimes I think some of my posts need a "shallowness" warning. But what's wrong with liking to look at beautiful people?

Oh Gareth. Oh John. Never change. :-D

I wish Gareth's agent would get on him for new publicity shots, but since Gareth's agent can't be arsed to add TW to his resume, I suppose that's asking a lot.

Gareth: if you're listening: SORT IT OUT.

what's wrong with liking to look at beautiful people

I had that argument repeatedly with an old boyfriend. *sigh*

Yes! How I hope they never do.

Yes. I'd say the situation was reaching emergency proportions. It isn't as if he isn't photogenic. C'mon, guys, get with it!

I had that argument repeatedly with an old boyfriend.

Beauty is where we find it, and I find it often undervalued in our world.

Gareth should be doing so much more in his breaks from filming TW. He says he wants to, so the only holdups I can think of are

1. lazy agent.
2. lazy Gareth.
3. he really just wants to dork around with the band.
4. contractual restraints: have any of the others (besides John) done anything else while Torchwooding? I can't think of anything.

But he's at a point where he's got to work his pert little ass off to be noticed, to get to the next level. For purely selfish reasons I want to see him get out there and Go Fight Win.

Either is possible. Maybe he really wants a rest. Can't expect everyone to have the energy of a Barrowman.

Audiobooks. Burn Gorman has been in six things besides Torchwood in 2007. Naoko Mori hasn't been in anything else since Torchwood started; ditto Eve Myles, I think, though she has something listed for 2008 - a role in Little Dorrit. Oh dear! I'll want to see that, but it's the only Dickens novel I've never read - there will be spoilers. Shall I read it first? Or go for movie-type spoilers about the plot? Decisions, decisions.

Anyway, I don't think there are contractual restraints, once Torchwood duties are done.

P.S. I forgot to add that Gareth is doing conventions, which really makes me want to go to Polaris in Toronto. If I can. Maybe he just wants to do a 'schmooze with the fans' sort of thing for a while.

Nice pick of Orlando Bloom they've got there - weird pic of Shia LaBeouf (sp!), Jared looking particularly gorgeous and sweet, lovely photo of Johnny Depp, Milo has inny nipples! GORGEOUS pick of Christian Bale - seriously the first time I've thought he was remotely sexy... wow! Cute pic of GDL and his comment is wonderful :-) Gale Harold looking smouldering, although I don't like the pic - he's definitely looked sexier.

Can't expect anyone to have his energy! Phew. (As an aside, is John the Best Talk Show Guest Ever?)

I reckon I'm just greedy. *grabby hands* Watched Gareth's bits of The Genius of Beethoven last night. Have you seen? He plays Beethoven's cruelly abused nephew/foster son. Gareth does pain so well.

Good on Burn. He should be busy; he's great.

Now that you mention it, Gareth's been audiobooking as well, with his Lovecraft stories coming out this month and next. (Woot!)

I've never minded seeing the movie first-- it doesn't ruin anything for me.

There's NOTHING wrong with it. Studies have proved that it's very good for the brain. Plus posting the links is a service to humanity. Mental health and civic mindedness! That's what slobbering over beauty is for.

Without a doubt!

No, I haven't. I'd like to!

I think this is good news. It's more Torchwood, and it's got Captain Jack, and my problem with the show - well, one of my problems with the show - to date has been that the writing is variable and inconsistent. A single story arc should solve that problem.

And if they do another miniseries - all the better.

What I hope for is quality writing and concept, so a lot depends on who the writers are.

I tend to like to experience the original form first - the novel if it's a story based on a book. And this is Dickens. I didn't read Little Dorrit when I was reading all the other Dickens novels because I wanted to have something by him still to read - another treat in store, perhaps for when I retire. This might be incentive to read Little Dorrit now, rather than later.

Sigh. Toronto's a little far to walk. But worth it - ?

Moneywise, the timing is really, really bad. It will be after my last unemployment cheque and before any paycheques at work. So I don't know. But... maybe it's worth a little debt for the sake of Ianto.

I love the very idea of Gareth David-Lloyd responding to his inclusion on this list with such delightful insouciance. Indeed, there are now more and more "People of that age where it's just not an issue"!

I just watched Buffy episode -- shoot, title escapes me. Ah: "Earshot," in which she can hear people's thoughts. As she is incapacitated and the Scooby Gang try to find the intending-killer, Xander talks to Larry and a most delightful thing happens: Larry sits there in the cafeteria and says, "What? I'm gay and I'm out, and it's great. I'm so out, my grandma is hooking me up with guys!" I so enjoyed that little scene.

Okay, I take issue with the afterellen list, if Sarah Shahi isn't higher than 7! Ditto Katee Sackoff and Grace Park so low, what were they thinking? [g] It all comes down to individual preferences, eh? But there are some few commonalities to what makes a person sexy, or at least I hope there are: poise, self-awareness, that sort of thing. Without that, nobody who's physically gorgeous is, to me, even remotely attractive.

I wonder why afterelton.com counted down from #100 and afterellen.com counted up from #1. Is there some deep gender-differentiation dichotomy there?

Ask Simon Baron-Cohen, he'd say yes. He's the autism expert in Britain who thinks that autistic people have a "male brain." Right. I think he's full of ... uh, nonsense (see, cleaner language! I'm trying!). Myself, I never understand (and I mean that in the intrinsic sense, as in: I literally can't understand, it makes no sense to me at a basic level) the "order of importance" ranking at all, whether it is from high to low number or from low to high. There is some component to it that escapes me. That's part of my autistic brain. It's not male -- it's simply not neurotypical. It's not the "opposite pole of a binary," it's different altogether. Sorry, I'll shut up now.

All that to say, I like seeing all the sexy people, but I don't see any point in saying one is "above" or "below" any others, except for how well it plays in double entendres! hee

(I wish I knew a similar site for bi people - is there one?)

You have time on your hands these days. Start one!

I'm having utterly too much fun with this post!

Jamie Bamber in a towel. You have made my week.

Didn't you love that episode? Please, please treat yourself to watching it again just to ignore the foreground action of that scene in order to concentrate on how much Starbuck/Sackoff was enjoying the rear view of Apollo/Bamber as the towel went through variations of being almost on and almost not on at all. Gad, the looks that passed her face. I really have no idea whether she was acting right then. Somebody needs to ask her, at a con appearance somewhere!

I'll stop now. I am about to eat a peach. Life is, at the moment, very good.

Yes, and they're of all ages.

"Earshot," in which she can hear people's thoughts.

I loved that one.

Larry sits there in the cafeteria and says, "What? I'm gay and I'm out, and it's great. I'm so out, my grandma is hooking me up with guys!" I so enjoyed that little scene.

I didn't like Xander's discomfort, but I did like the scene. I wanted to give Larry's grandmother a hug. And didn't he seem happier, being out?

I take issue with the afterellen list, if Sarah Shahi isn't higher than 7!

Yes, well, she's #1 on my list!

Ditto Katee Sackoff and Grace Park so low

They are both just so sexy. And interesting looking.

But there are some few commonalities to what makes a person sexy, or at least I hope there are: poise, self-awareness, that sort of thing.

Yes. These people have that in spades.
