Doctor Who casting spoiler I hadn't heard yet.... But it's officially on the John Barrowman mailing list that he'll be in series 4 of Doctor Who. Oh, yes, yes, yes, I was hoping. (Despite my distress about what actually happened last season; despite my lack of confidence that there'll be anything like a resolution between Jack and the Doctor, or another Jack/Doctor kiss.)

But even so: oooh yes. Bring it on. I'm happy about this. Hope springs eternal.

Yeah, he said that in an interview back ... I think before TW s2 started.

So I guess we can believe it! I really don't know what to expect.

*grins* I checked my tags, I mentioned back in early November that [profile] fandom_me linked to an interview with him where he mentioned that after filming TW, he was going to the set of DW to do filming for season 4, so yup. There wasn't more information than that, though.

... we'll just have to wait and see. But mmmm Jack!

mmmm Jack!

That's the bottom line! And hopefully not long to wait now.

I'm waaaay behind my daily digests from the mailing list, so I didn't hear this before! That's wonderful news! And means I have to buy more DVD boxes. *sigh* *lol*

Yes! *happy dance on one foot, with crutches*

I find it amazing how much traffic there is on that list. I love the spirit of the list - but I often skip posts because there are just so many of them.

Yup. RL is so busy at the moment that I'm so overwhelmed by the Digests that they just have to wait until the next free weekend... but I love the spirit of the list, too!

I have a bit of a jealousy problem - all those people able to go to the Barrowman concerts, show-tapings, signings, plays, and so on. Envy is me!

But it's really fun to hear about it vicariously.

Yeah, I heard that, and I'm actually hopeful that if he's not in tonight's episode then at least that it will shed some light on his history. It's too much of a coincidence that Moffat's new epis are being set in the 51st century. I'm really hoping that they'll shed some light on the missing two years. In fact, RTD's said (before Moffat was announced as his successor) that he was leaving that in Moffat's hands to explain. So yay!

Having just watched that episode, I now have a totally cracked out theory that one of the characters will actually turn out to be Jack. just in a different body.

Yes, I probably have read too much fanfic...

You're not alone ... I saw that theory on some of the TW journals. I don't know if I buy it tho. It would be cool, agreed, but then again I think Moffat can create another character who's just as cool as Jack without *being* Jack.

I guess I'm not the only who's insane then!

Moffat can create another character who's just as cool as Jack without *being* Jack.

Absolutely. I don't have any expectation at all that it is correct - there was just something that pinged me as Jack-like in the character.

Oh definitely! The "I've dated androids...they're rubbish" line was very Jack-like!!

The "I've dated androids...they're rubbish" line was very Jack-like!!

Hee! So it was. But it would be more Jack-like to say, "I once dated these two androids who liked karaoke..."

Yes, River Song was Jacklike in some ways, and un-Jacklike in others. It's fun to see the similarities. Given the implied future intimacy with the Doctor, I'd like her to be Jack. At the same time, I thought she didn't quite have Jack's strength of personality or his humour.

Romana regenerated into another body, you think?

Hmm. I like the theory, but I can't get it to make a lot of sense.

If hse was/is Romana, why couldn't she just tell him that's who she was? He already knows Romana from the past, and he knows about regeneration. And she expected him to recognize her in that body. Besides, doesn't he know when there's a living Time Lord around?

Whatever she is, was, or will be - we'll find out next week.

I hope.

Okay, I've seen it now. I take it that you are speculating that River Song might be Jack in a future female form?

My sense is that the personality was different enough that it wasn't him, though given that she called the Doctor "sweetie" and implied there had been or will be (depending on the point of view) intimacy between them makes me quite like the idea. And if Jack was once pregnant in the past, then he might be female in the future....

But if I were a betting man, I'd bet against it.

And so was "The Girl in the Fireplace", wasn't it? Moffat has a thing about that century!

Which is, of course, fine by me.

This ep. blew me away. First he made me fear stone statues, now I'm going to be creeped by shadows!

Speaking of Jack ... I don't know if you belong to any comms where I've pimped, but I finished my TW/HP x-over that I'd mentioned. Don't feel obligated to read, I just thought I'd throw you the link in case you're interested. It starts here (http://lili-pad.insanejournal.com/16627.html); the first two parts are up, and I'm posting a new chapter every other day.

now I'm going to be creeped by shadows!

Especially if they're in libraries. Moffat has this wonderful talent of making creepiness out of minimal things we all experience. He's brilliant.

Thanks for the link to your story. I like to wait till multipart stories are entirely posted before reading them - I don't much like reading things in sequential parts. (Well, except Marvel comics.) As soon as the whole story is posted, I'm there!

at least that it will shed some light on his history

As far as I could see, there was no direct connection with Jack, except for the use of a squareness gun like he used to have. Perhaps there will be something in part 2?

I hope and expect Moffat will explain about Jack's missing two years, though I don't mind if he takes his time with Jack's story.

Since I haven't been online for a while now, I probably haven't mentioned that Tom and I have been watching this current season of Doctor Who. Quite enjoying it so far, though it's much "lighter" than Torchwood. I'm planning on getting the first seasons from my Netflix equivalent once we're done with this one. Plus season 1 of Torchwood. How do they interleave? :-)

Very cool! I think it's good.

it's much "lighter" than Torchwood

Absolutely! I love Torchwood, as you know, but it's sometimes downright depressing.

I'm planning on getting the first seasons from my Netflix equivalent once we're done with this one

I hope you love the Ninth Doctor as much as I do.

Plus season 1 of Torchwood. How do they interleave? :-)

Doctor Who series 1 comes first; Captain Jack appears in the Ninth to Thirteenth episodes.

Then we get series 2 Doctor Who, in which Torchwood, or the Torchwood Institute, is mentioned in each episode, and Torchwood One (in London) is featured in episodes 12 and 13. But there's no Captain Jack. Rose is the Doctor's companion in both series 1 and 2.

Then we have Torchwood series 1, which ends with Jack rejoining the Doctor at the end.

Then Doctor Who series 3, which is presumably sort of contemporaneous with the first series of Torchwood (though it's all sort of wibbly-wobbly in terms of actual timeline), until episode 11, when we pick up with Jack meeting up with the Doctor again. He appears in the next three episodes, having and adventure that takes place between series 1 and 2 of Torchwood. Martha Jones is the Doctor's companion in series 3.

Then we have Torchwood series 2.

Then we have Doctor Who series 4, with Donna Noble, who was also in "The Runaway Bride", which was the Christmas special after series 2. If you get the DVDs from Netflix it will probably be included with series 2.

They way I laid it for a friend just getting into the series is as follows:

Watch series 1 and 2 of Doctor Who
Then watch series 1 of Torchwood.
Then watch series 3 of Doctor Who
Then watch series 2 of Torchwood.

In the states, Runaway Bride was bundled with series 3. My understanding is that the numbering for the three Christmas specials so far is as follows:

The Christmas Invasion = episode 200 i.e. series 2 episode 0
The Runway Bride = episode 300 i.e. series 3 episode 0
Voyage of the Damned = episode 400 i.e. series 4 episode 0

Hope this helps!!

I would agree with all of that.

And though there are bits - episodes - I like better or less than others, it's all worth watching.

Cool, thanks! I've also taken note of the comment below...

I'm definitely looking forward to going to back to all this. I'm really enjoying season 4 with Doctor Ten and Donna, so far. We missed this past Saturday's though. I'll have to make sure to see the runaway bride for sure! :-)

The Runaway Bride is fun, but I didn't like Donna there - she's much better in series 4. And her grandfather - I think he's great!

From: [identity profile] toraks.livejournal.com

Yeah, I got the impression that she wasn't that impressive from people's comments on her being the new companion. But I do absolutely love her grandfather! And she's growing on me as well. Even without TRB coloring my view, I didn't find her all that compelling at the start.

On the other hand, the Doctor is really wonderful! :-)

No. She was rather shrill and ditzy. Had her moments, though.

It's wonderful how she's improved.

The Doctor is... quite totally wonderful. Better than ever in "Forest of the Dead", I thought. After seeing it, [livejournal.com profile] commodirified said, "Now I see how he could play Hamlet."

If you lose the note, you can always ask me again.

Last Saturday's episode of Doctor Who was quite fascinating. For some reason I can't pin down, I thought David Tennant was outdoing himself - good acting, and very sexy.

I look forward to it then! I'll see if I can convince Tom we need to watch it tonight. And do some quick packing -- I'm going to Stockholm for a conference early Wednesday morning. I won't convince him if I haven't packed first! ;-p
