I like this meme: got it from [livejournal.com profile] wijsgeer.

Go here, and read until you find five quotes that speak your truth.
  1. I appreciate people who are civil, whether they mean it or not. I think: Be civil. Do not cherish your opinion over my feelings. There's a vanity to candor that isn't really worth it. Be kind.- Richard Greenberg, NY Times Magazine, 03-26-2006

  2. This is our purpose: to make as meaningful as possible this life that has been bestowed upon us; to live in such a way that we may be proud of ourselves; to act in such a way that some part of us lives on. - Oswald Spengler (1880 - 1936)

  3. When all is said and done, the weather and love are the two elements about which one can never be sure. - Alice Hoffman, 'Here on Earth'

  4. Seek simplicity, and distrust it. - Alfred North Whitehead (1861 - 1947)

  5. Wisdom is knowing what to do next; virtue is doing it. - David Starr Jordan (1851 - 1931), The Philosophy of Despair

Now, it seems to me that this meme is skewed because we are picking from the given list. I've been collecting quotes, in a vague sort of way, for years. I should pick my five favourites and post them. But first, I'll have to think about it.

Nice meme! And now I shall spend some time attempting to construct your character from what you've chosen. :-)

1. My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.
Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

2. Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.
Andre Gide (1869 - 1951)

3. May I never miss a sunset or a rainbow because I am looking down.
Sara June Parker

4. He who reigns within himself and rules his passions, desires, and fears is more than a king.
John Milton (1608 - 1674)

5. The love of liberty is the love of others; the love of power is the love of ourselves.
William Hazlitt (1778 - 1830)

Bonus because I love this guy and this is a wonderful quote:

I merely took the energy it takes to pout and wrote some blues.
Duke Ellington (1899 - 1974)

Oooh, good ones. I don't think I rule my passions and desires but at least I have fun with them. Love of liberty - I've plenty of that. (To a fault!) I particularly love the quote from Gide.

And Ellington - that's wonderful!
