Oh nooooo....
May. 13th, 2008 08:51 pmI wasn't going to go to Polaris, the con formerly known as Toronto Trek. Not this year. I really wasn't. Bad foot, no money, no time, right?
But then they announced Jason Dohring was going to be there. Oooh the tendrils of temptation. He was so sexy as Logan Echolls.
And now... now... it turns out that Gareth David-Lloyd is going to be one of the guests.
I am doomed.

Date: 2008-05-14 03:07 pm (UTC)I'm not sure I can resist. I mean... a Torchwood guest. Eeee! And a good one, too.
Would be so worth being broke for the next few months :D
Yeah... but I fear jeopardizing my planned Dunnett excursion to France.
Except that's not till 2009 or 2010.
I think it's a matter of... Toronto, here I come.
(It used to be so easy to get to Toronto! What happened?)

Date: 2008-05-20 03:13 am (UTC)Huh. These guys are getting me so accustomed to seeing gay love on tv. What a wonderful world!
The trouble with growing up in tiny New Hampshire, which is about 3 hours tall and 1.5 hours wide at the widest point, is that I tend to forget that Ontario is, like, HUMUNGOUSLY VAST.

These guys are getting me so accustomed to seeing gay love on tv. What a wonderful world!
Isn't it? Not too long ago, this would have been unthinkable.
I tend to forget that Ontario is, like, HUMUNGOUSLY VAST.
Yup. Big, big, big. Ontario goes on forever - or so it seems, if you're trying to cross it by car or train.
Ontario is 415,598 sq. miles. New Hampshire is 9,350 square miles. Texas, to pick a big state, is 268,820. England is 130,395.

Date: 2008-05-20 08:23 pm (UTC)Well, I've taken the train from Kenora to Ignace... many many years ago. :-) Went to the Quetico every summer for a while in my teens.
ETA: New Hampshire is bigger than Wales! 8,000 square miles! Aw!

Date: 2008-05-14 02:50 pm (UTC)Oh dear. Only so many weekends in a year, so many conventions packed into those weekends.... It's years since I've been to a Shore Leave. I have good memories.
when he said he wanted to do North American cons, he didn't wait long, did he?
Maybe someone on the Polaris concom heard he'd said that and took advantage!
I'm still trying to sell Shore Leave on getting him for next year.
Expanding the scope of my temptations.

(I'm joking. I would never encourage anyone to abuse the system in that way - my sister is in a wheelchair.)

Date: 2008-05-14 02:46 pm (UTC)Being one-footed is the smallest part of the problem. Getting the money together (without compromising other important things) is the big part.
But... how else do I get a chance to see a Torchwood star in person?

Date: 2008-05-14 03:03 pm (UTC)*hugs gently* I just didn't want anyone passing by thinking I was making light of permanent disability...

Food *is* an optional luxury you know...

Date: 2008-05-14 03:10 pm (UTC)Understood. I am constantly appalled at how unkind - how callous the world is about disabilities. Restaurants so often have their toilets in basements, shops have a couple of steps at the entryway, wheelchairs are made to go down back corridors and in feight elevators - even in this purportedly enlightened age in which people are aware of accessibility issues, there are still so many difficulties.
It's been a bit of a concern for me for some time because so many of my friends have trouble walking. And here I am now, experiencing it all for myself.
Food *is* an optional luxury you know...
So it is!

I don't think I even have people I can visit in Toronto any more, so I'd need a hotel. And Toronto hotels tend to be expensive... but nice.
Heck, I love Toronto and love to find excuses to go there.
