Marion and Vicky brought over episodes of Foyle's War for me to watch, and I'm enjoying it very much - from the vantage point so far of halfway through the second episode. I love Honeysuckle Weeks as Samantha Stewart. And Michael Kitchen as Foyle reminds me of Daniel Craig - that can't be a bad thing. I like his unpretentiousness.

Marion and Vicky took me out to lunch today - it was wonderful. They showed just the right measure of solicitude - making me feel safe - and I had no problem using the crutches to get in and out of the restaurant, which was Von's Bistro at Bank and Fourth. I had their hamburger - it was utterly heavenly. We talked about history more than fandom. What fun.

Afterwards, they came back to my place and we watched Doctor Who, series 4, episode 1, "Partners in Crime". A good time was had by all.

I love that quiet Michael Kitchen, who plays Foyle. He is so quietly internal. His relationship with his son (who is very different) is lovely.

The characterization in general is very good, and I like the evocation of 1940.

Besides, I can always imagine Captain Jack Harkness walking into the scene.

Either Captain Jack Harkness.

Foyle's War! Yay! I love that show. And I hadn't thought of Michael Kitchen and Daniel Craig in the same breath before, but there is a sort of... yeah.

*bets you'll end up writing FW crossover with Captain Jack Harkness*

Something about their expressive eyes.

Now... that would be fun!

FOUR episodes per year??? I promise never to complain about Torchwood's skimpy seasons and over-long hiatuseses ever again.

*immediately breaks promise*

Sometimes we just take what we can get.

Me, I'd like more Torchwood.

Have you seen the third ep. of Series I, "A Lesson In Murder?" It features David Tennant and Sophia Miles (Reinette), although they don't have scenes together.

Oh, how wonderful! No, I haven't seen it yet - it's the next one I'm going to watch.

Such an adventure! And with just the right companions, too, I'd say. You continue to move back towards full and comfortable balance. Well done!

I have never heard of Foyle's War. But now I'm intrigued. Is it a spy sort of thing?

I now am getting a little anxious that I may on occasion come across as over-solicitous, unwelcomely so, and if that's happended I apologize and request gentle correction. Supportive is what I've been aiming for. Condescending I eternally shudder to think of! But I know you'll tell me if I err, and I thank you.

No, murder mystery. Foyle is a homicide detective in southern England in 1940. The plots revolve around wartime themes - so far, anyway - but the basic plots are Agatha Christie sorts of things.

Why do people keep saying this, and apologizing for it? At the moment, I want it! I love it! I find it comforting.

Why do we keep saying this? Because we don't want you to feel smothered and tell us to go away!!

Ahem.

That said... need anything else out of that cool catalog that came along with the cushion-grips and the pterodactyl-toe reacher-thing? Just say the word.

Sigh.

OK, I'll shut up.

Take the time you need. Want some history books?

You are really catching up on your video watching, aren't you?

Good for you.

Yes, this video-watching has been fun. It's not something I often do on my own - not something I have the opportunity for. I'm usually way too busy.
