Okay, because I've been writing and I feel like rewarding myself, it's meme time. Got this one from [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me:
Comment with a subject for a top 5 (ships, songs, TV shows, etc.) you would like to see me answer. Feel free to ask more than one!

Oh, good ones!

Top five places to eat in Ottawa. - i.e., my favourite places
  1. The Colonnade, on Gilmour at O'Connor. Best pizza in town.
  2. Bento Sushi on Rideau
  3. Ben Ben on Somerset (they have duck congee that I adore)
  4. Daly's at the Westin - haven't been there in years, but I have good memories of it
  5. Flipper's, at Bank and Third

And I suppose I can squeak in a tip of the hat to the Green Door on Main Street, which loses points for not having a lot of new and different dishes all the time, but which does scrumptious vegetables.

Top five vacations(holidays) you've taken.
  1. Orkney. An amazing, amazing place for a hundred reasons. Beyond all imagining.
  2. Malta
  3. Cornwall
  4. Pointe-au-Baril on Georgian Bay
  5. Venice, for all the traditional reasons

Also, five favorite Plantagenets.

This list is subject to change according to whim at any moment. And, occasionally, subject to change by seeing a new and good production that changes my entire thinking about that play.

  1. Isabella of Jerusalem (granddaughter of Fulk and Melissande)
  2. Henry II of England
  3. Richard I of England

Top five DW/TW quotes (or moments) (Oooh - how to restrict this to only five?)
  1. From Doctor Who 3x10, "Blink":
Doctor: People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.
    Sally: Started well, that sentence.
Doctor: It got away from me, yeah.

  2. From Doctor Who "The Voyage of the Damned":
I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I'm 903 years old, and I'm the man who's gonna save your lives and all six billion people on the planet below.

  3. The ending of Doctor Who 2x13 "Doomsday".
  4. From Torchwood 2x01, "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang":
    Gwen: You left us, Jack!
Jack: (sighs) I know. I'm sorry.
    Gwen: We knew nothing, Jack!
    Toshiko: Where were you?
    Jack: I found my doctor.
    Owen: Did he fix you?
Jack: What's to fix? You don't mess with this level of perfection.
Ianto: Are you going back to him?
Jack: I came back for you. All of you.

  5. From Torchwood 2x13 "Exit Wounds":
John: You didn't struggle when I buried you. Like you were allowing it.
    Jack: It was my penance.

  4. Maple walnut
  5. Butter pecan

5 favourite acronyms

Ooh, you don't make it easy, do you? Well done!
  1. B.C., because its use is fading, and I like its historiography.
  2. D.V., "Deo volente", "God willing". I use it like 'touch wood".
  3. BBC, because I like their programmes. (Ditto CBC, especially CBC radio.)
  4. OSFS, the Ottawa Science Fiction Society - a group of which I've been a member for several decades. I like the acronym because when I first met up with OSFS members, I had a lot of trouble, for some reason, remembering what it stood for and how to say it. (It's oss-fiss.) This amuses me.
  5. # S.H.I.E.L.D. (originally Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law Enforcement Division; later Strategic Hazard Intervention, Espionage and Logistics Directorate), from the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel comics. (See also U.N.C.L.E.)

  1. Iris (http://www.ancientrootsresearch.com/Hap-I/Chivalry-iris.jpg) - this particular iris picture, to my delight, is called the "chivalry iris".

  3. Lilac (http://www.arboretum.harvard.edu/plants/images/lilacs_overview.jpg) (especially cherry lilac (http://www.inetours.com/New_York/Images/Brklyn/Botanic/Lilac_5409.jpg))

I'd love to see you anytime - and to hop outside - and practise crutching a little maybe. Did you mean Friday or Saturday? Today (Friday) Beulah is coming over about 4 for a Buffy session.
