Read another
Barrowman interview, mostly notable because it's the first time I've seen him publicly refer to Scott as his husband.
It was a good day:
lmondegreen came over and we watched
Doctor Who, then
maaseru and
maaboroshi joined us and we watched "Port Hope", which is the first episode of
Space Rangers, which we had liked when it was on in the 1990s. The characters were as personable as I remembered; the setting and situation extremely interesting; and the script rather shockingly full of clichés. The characters reminded me of
Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, always a good thing.
And the young rookie soldier, Danny, was an nice analogue to the young soldier Captain Jack Harkness must once have been.
I went along for the drive when
maaseru drove
lmondegreen home, which felt odd, since it was my first time out of the apartment since coming back from the hospital. I felt a little queasy in the car; don't seem to have much strength yet. But. It was good. In some ways it seemed almost like a normal day. It wasn't, but it was closer than I've had in a long time.
Which is a nice thought.

Date: 2008-04-14 05:55 am (UTC)...um, where did you get hold of Space Rangers, please?
Gad. How well I remember discussing that show with you in postcards, in the lovely, unhurried era before either of us had a computer!
Linda Hunt! She was perfect in the role.
And, yes, silly cliches, but... such heart it had!
I went along for the drive ...
This I had to read twice, because my eyes told me something I didn't know could yet be true: you went outside! Yay, you! Wow, that was a major step. Hope the queasiness does not appear on Friday.

Yes. Really quite exciting.

and also Officer Aeryn Sun from Farscape?
I haven't seen enough Farscape to pick up on that.
Generally militaristic archetypes, yes, but done rather well and in different ways.
The Space Rangers episodes were a gift from a friend.

I finally tracked down Witchblade on DVD; turns out, the online DVD place I got it from just copied videotaped episodes onto DVD-Rs. Suits me fine! At least now I have it. I have no idea why it has not been brought out commercially; it starred Yancy Butler as Detective Sarah Pezzini of the New York Police Department, and was utterly stunning both visually and in character and plot. I'd call it one of the best transfers of a comic book to television that I've ever seen.

I finally tracked down Witchblade on DVD;
It seems odd to me that Witchblade would be difficult to find. Just as it was difficult to find Stingray for all those years!

Date: 2008-04-18 03:34 am (UTC)Usually if there's no DVD it's because of a technical or rights problem - which is possible - or someone thinks it doesn't have enough market appeal.
You'd think Witchblade would be just the sort of thing that's ideal for DVD.

Date: 2008-04-14 05:18 pm (UTC)That is so true. And it was quite wonderful but also quite intimidating - while only a few weeks ago it would have felt so mundane. Now it all feels like steps, a little bit more that I can do every day, maybe not well - but worth trying.

Date: 2008-04-14 05:45 pm (UTC)How wonderful! Congratulations! I am truly impressed.
I hope I'm saying that sometimes soon - I hardly know what timeframe to hope for - we shall see.
It's either that or the freight elevator, which feels vaguely embarrassing.
I try never to be embarrassed by anything, especially things I can't help or control, but - who wants to be 'freight' if they can find an alternative?

Date: 2008-04-14 04:40 pm (UTC)Was it wonderful to get out of the house? I was perfectly frantic to, after a couple of weeks. I hope you live on the ground floor? Tell me, so I can be even more depressed about American healthcare: is your home aid nurse part of your treatment? Or an extra that you've paid for? Because DAMN, that would have been beyond divine.
I'm sorry I haven't been here to cheer you on daily-- been in Paris, soaking in beauty. But I thought of you every day, and wished you well.

his not-not-well-endowedness.
The comment made me laugh.
Was it wonderful to get out of the house?
It definitely was. At the same time, it was sort of overwhelming, in a 'not sure I'm ready for this yet' kind of way. I was in
The home nurse is from CCAC (http://www.ccac-ont.ca/Content.aspx?EnterpriseID=11&LanguageID=1&MenuID=3), a provincial body that provides In-home services for people who can't take care of themselves.
And yes, it is beyond divine. Really.

How wonderful! Give my regards to the Sainte-Chapelle and the Musée Cluny and - oh my goodness, there are so many beautiful places in Paris and I love them all. Have a marvellous time. Thank you for thinking of me, and I will picture you in all my favourite Parisian spots, maybe with a croissant and a café. Now, that's divine!

Yes, I remember feeling that. My first outing, post-hospital, was a friend taking me to a teeny tiny museum in town. It was enough to be challenging, but not so much as to be discouraging.
My nemesis was also a treacherous bit of ice. Unbelievable. Had I stepped left or right my life would have been so different. Well, we are all fortune's fools, as they say.

Oh, no! I hope nothing valuable was damaged.

Sounds like a good sort of thing. Interesting enough to be worthwhile, too.
My nemesis was also a treacherous bit of ice.
We are not alone in this. Lots of people have had such mishaps on ice. It doesn't seem right, somehow.
