I actually managed to write a few things today, despite my sleepy brain.

For [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse, an item about silence and Gwen Cooper called Discovery.

For [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse, an item about silence and the death of Aral Vorkosigan's wife called Speak No Evil.

For [livejournal.com profile] makeyourlist, a list of Gwen Cooper's enemies, and no, I didn't include the Jack/Ianto shippers who dislike her.

I would be nice to write more tomorrow without falling asleep in the middle of something.

Other accomplishments:

- Got my walker into the kitchen, briefly. Not really a good experience but at least I did it.
- Napped on my bed for a while, for a change of scene. (I've been sleeping in the living room.)
- Got a meal from Meals on Wheels, and it was good.
- read some Torchwood fanfic - just can't get enough.

The highlight of the day was a visit from Marion and Vicky, with a luxiurious lunch: salad, salmon cakes, and strawberries for dessert. Yum.

[livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi is still sick, and dropped by for a bit of company and shared food before shambling back to her place in her gorgeous leopard-spot dressing gown. [livejournal.com profile] maaseru was wonderful as always, just dropping in from time to time to makes sure I and the birds were all right. She's currently reprinting a few copies of my Pros slash novel Forever True, which is kind of exciting. You can see it on her eBay site here.

You're evil, woman! I thought you were writing about Cordelia's funeral!

Very, very good viewpoint piece. Poor Aral.

No, no, first wife. All my Aral fics take place when Aral is about 25 years old - basically the period following his first wife's death.

If I wrote about Aral's later life, I'd have to write about Cordelia and Miles, and though that might be fun it's sort of overwhelmingly challenging. How could I possibly do justice to them? I couldn't. So I stick to 25-year-old Aral, still struggling to sort out the problems he had then.

silence and Gwen Cooper

Talk about an oxymoron! (And I LIKE Gwen.)

Silence and Gwen Cooper

LOL - so very true! I like taking the unusual approach - if I made a list of words I associate with Gwen, 'silence' would be maybe two-trillionth on the list...

Loved the Aral piece: you really captured his emptiness at that time, and his conflicted feeling towards Ges.

Glad to hear you're slowly expanding your horizons.

I think the sleepiness is likely an inevitable effect of your pain medicine (and the fact you're not accustomed to them & don't want to be). Didn't Victorian doctors use laudanum (tincture of opium) to put their patients to sleep?

Thank you! I suspect Aral always felt conflicted about Ges - how could he not?

Glad to hear you're slowly expanding your horizons.

Well, um, yes, though there are horizons and horizons.

I think so, yes, as well as a general painkiller. (Then as now!) I guess it works.

Yay for little accomplishments! *lol* Good to see around again!
Oh, and that Gwen Cooper enemy list was great! The one about John Hart made me snicker... and uhh, cannibals! *still shivering*
Good luck for waking up your brain a bit... *hugs*

Not relevant to this post but - for some reason I didn't end up friending you after the piffle/LJ discussion a while back. Rectified now :-)

Hope the foot is not giving too much pain.

Glad to see you here! Yeah, the foot hurts, but not too bad, and I'm down to less than half the painkillers I was taking a few days ago. It's just heavy, and that's mostly due to the plaster cast, which they will change soon.
