Great excitement in Hobbiton....

I just saw the preview trailer for The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King. I saw the TORN link to the trailer early this morning, but I can't access video at work - we don't have the right software - so I had to wait till tonight: now, that is an exercise in frustration and patience for a dedicated fanatic like me.

The TORN copy was gone by the time I had a chance to look there, and two alternate sites I tried were down, but thanks to squashed I found at copy

Oh my goodness.

I am entranced.

I've watched it a dozen times now (mesmerized!) and don't have very coherent thoughts about it. But.....

<li> Is that Sam's hand holding the Ring in the first shot?
<li> The forging of Anduril! One of my favourite things ever, and we get to see it. "Renewed shall be blade that was broken/Crownless again shall be king." Oooh.
<li> The Paths of the Dead! Brrr.
<li> Aragorn in the armour of Gondor, with the White Tree.
<li> Faramir in the Council chamber of Gondor. My goodness. Quite breathtaking. I adore that man.
<li> Looks like an intense Pippin/Merry scene.
<li> Is that Dernhelm?
<li> The Ringwraith looks scary.
<li> Is that Shelob's lair? Where is Shelob?
<li> I like the effect of the darkness - presumably the darkness of Mordor - with Frodo and Sam walking among backlit trees. Doesn't Frodo look suitably awful!
<li> Wonderful glance between Gandalf and Pippin. That just happens to be one of my favourite relationships in the book, and I don't mean any slashy innuendo there: I love the way they interact, and the way Gandalf is extra tough on Pippin because he so clearly cares for him.
<li> No Arwen in the trailer. Surprising.
<li> Who is Gollum talking to?
<li> Minas Tirith looks as good as I had hoped.

So... how many days until the movie opens?

I got it at http://saroumaneforum.free.fr/rotk.mov, so you might be able to get it there. Or tell me where to ftp it and I can do that! It's lovely. Very rough - presumably that's why the New Line people don't want it up on the main sites, it isn't a polished and finished trailer - but oh so beautiful.

I'm smiling with love of Aragorn. (Legolas looks good too.)
