We're getting an extra radio episode of Torchwood this summer.

Cool. I wonder if I'll be able to hear it.

Isn't that the same particle accelerator Barrowman went to see last year with Scott?

It's by Joseph Lidster, whose writing on "A Day in the Death" didn't impress me, though it was a good story.

I love it that they are doing things like this.

Yeah, see, I would have paid a LOT more attention to physics in high school if we'd had illustrations like that.

His particles are just fine.

Belleh!

Speaking of lovely things, I've been wondering, and I know you have the answer: his first kiss? Details of?

Somehow it makes the whole subject much more interesting.

Ooh, wouldn't that be fun? Shall I write it up for you?

I can think of a couple of nice scenarios...!

I was thinking JB might have said something in his bio, but I'm absolutely ready and willing to hear your version of events! Most willing indeed!

I was thinking of Jack!fic not RPS John!fic... In JB's case, I suspect he was pretty young, being both good looking and not shy. He said he was popular with the girls in high school - that being his revenge on the bullies, that the girls they liked all preferred John.

He also talked about a nice kiss at a swimming pool - was that the first? Must reread. Hardship, y'know, but all in the interest of research.

Oh, Jack's first kiss would be the BEST! YIS PLZ.

I'm just going to have to break down and get that book, huh. Was he a goodlookin' kid, then? Not a late bloomer? Usually I jealously frown on people who bloom early and STAY bloomed, but-- it's John, and he's so dear.

I'm on it. I have something I have to write first (for a deadline) but when that's done - !

I'm just going to have to break down and get that book, huh.

I don't think you'd regret it. It's a wonderful but - John's entertaining personal style shines through on every page. I particularly loved the footnotes.

Was he a goodlookin' kid, then? Not a late bloomer?

He was more ordinary-looking when young than now but none of the family were exactly ugly, and it's clear (at least to me) that he had personality in spades - that combination of charm and humour that looks like cuteness in children and charisma in adults.

I jealously frown on people who bloom early and STAY bloomed, but-- it's John, and he's so dear.

What can you do? Shrug and accept it. He's so extraordinary he breaks all the normal rules.

Good looking, charming, loads of fun, parents probably loved him, and girls wouldn't have to worry about him wanting to "go all the way". Perfect starter boyfriend. :-)

Oh, absolutely, 'yes' to all of that. At the age of 7 or 8 he had his own drinks-shaker which he'd pretend was a microphone as he used it to sing for the grown-ups at his parents' parties. Kids just don't get cuter than that.

girls wouldn't have to worry about him wanting to "go all the way".

Yes, and I'm sure he treated them like 'people' rather than just girls or just bodies - listened to what they had to say, and shared their interests. Perfect!

That's really cool! Both a radio drama (which I shall take pains to obtain), and that they put the particle accelerator in it.

My husband recognized the particle accelerator from the John picture (!!! geek points !!!) and pointed out a cartoon about it.

Lex Luthor got himself a particle accelerator. Do I feel a crossover story coming on?

Hee! Clever man! So did I, but then, it's the only particle accelerator I've ever seen a picture of. And only because of Barrowman.

Love the cartoon!

The BBC's generally pretty good about putting radio content online for free, even outside the UK. Hope that'll follow through in this case! :D Thanks for the heads-up.

BTW, Ruth from the Bujold mailing list here -- figured I'd friend after I saw your LJ username over there. ;) *waves*

Yes, bless them. They're stingy with websites and videos, but we can usually get radio shows. I'll certaintly try to be alert for this one.

Nice to see you here! I love it when people come from other locations like mailing lists and such. I friended you with alacrity - hope that's okay!

You can see John B. actually visiting CERN and the Large Hadron Collector here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxl9pA3CudQ

Very cute, and quite interesting, too.

If it's the BBC afternoon play, we should be able to listen to it for a week afterwards over the web, although it won't be immediately downloadable. That's what they do with all the plays on that program (at least so far).

I love the CERN visit - I think I have it downloaded somewhere.

I just have to keep my eyes and ears open, and not miss that show when it comes onto their website. Write notes to myself. Set timers. That sort of thing.

Back shortly after John Barrowman had his tour of the particle accelerator, I found the picture online - I think it was on the CERN site. There were some gorgeous pictures. This time, I found it on a random Google Image Search using "John Barrowman CERN" as my search criteria.
