fajrdrako: ([Doctor Who] - Ten)

Every once in a while, I find an artist online whose work is extraordinary and fascinating. (As Ianto has been known to say, I could make a list.)

Su Blackwell is the latest. She makes sculpture art with books, and the story of the book is integral to the art, as of this an illustration of Mary finding the door to the Secret Garden in The Secret Garden. And here is Alice going through the looking-glass. I particuarly like the way she does trees.

Even her simpler designs are fascinating.

I thought so - combining books and ideas and paperwork - and it's so different. I've never seen anything quite like it. Ordinary cutwork excepted. It's conceptually sort of Escher-like, the way it combines media, ideas and the visual.

There are incredibly shiny things here,

but, but,
she hurted books.

she hurted books.

You think?

I'd say she liberated books to express themselves in new and beautiful ways.
