This isn't an 'invisibility cloak for sound', it's a cone of silence. Don't those scientists know the right terms?

But whatever it is, it sounds cool. Very cool.

Which reminds me . . .

, , , of RPGs. Were you asking about "mun"? Only I've thought of two other possible meanings.

Yes, I was. What are the other meanings?

In a community in which members play a character that is more or less THEM (an avatar or sorts), they might use the term to distinguish between RL!Self and Character!Self. Which one they use it for will depend on the community. Fun, nay? RP conventions are way more confusing than Bridge bidding conventions.

So which is the mun? The real-life writer or the character they are writing about? For instance, when I write about Aral Vorkosigan on [livejournal.com profile] aral_vorkosigan, and I the mun, or is he?

RP conventions are way more confusing than Bridge bidding conventions.

I groan in horror. Bridge drives me insane.

Perhaps fandom has already driven me insane, and I never noticed.

To repeat:

Which one they use it for will depend on the community.

Y'ought to be able to tell from context after a bit of lurking. In this case, a quick skim of the [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_fen user info page tells me that the mun is the real-life writer, while Aral is the muse. Now, "pup" is one I haven't seen before. It seems to mean the same as "muse", but it appears only in the fine-print rules, while "muse" is used more prominently. Is "pup" an artefact, an older community term for the characters that's being replaced by "muse"?

Thank you, that's helpful! If I figure out "pup" (and I haven't yet) I'll let you know.

Ask [livejournal.com profile] kikibug13; I saw her use it in a post recently.

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] kikibug13 has used it and I was hoping I could figure it out before asking her so I wouldn't look too dumb. Or, even worse, I have this fear I have already asked her and then forgot her answer.

And it says that the materials to build it do not exist in nature, will have to be manufactured from as-yet-unknown metamaterials.

Call Reed Richards.

Reed could solve so many practical problems. I'm sure the metamaterials are just sitting around in the Negative Zone or somewhere.

Do you expect "Agent 86 for Control" to pop out of the woodwork too? :-)

Well, obviously this is a world in which strange things theoretically exist - why not?
