Torchwood: the latest gorgeous clip from series 2...

Oh dear. These things just get better and better by the day.


1. OMG: it's Beatrice and Benedick all over again. In snazzy coats. With guns.

2. It looks as if the two Captains are - as advertised - two of a kind. I like that. Mostly I love the expressions and body language - I feel as if I totally understand the relationship and the communication between the two men and I haven't even seen it yet - the relationship or the episode.

3. Lovely glass-shooting moment. Ooh, looks as if Captain John is mighty pissed off that Captain Jack doesn't want him around. I still love Captain John's outfit.

4. Which is the cute one that isn't blond, who catches Captain John's eye? Ianto? Gwen? and is there jealousy involved here?

5. I love it that the team comes to Jack's rescue, or tries to. And I love Captain John's snarky suggestions for names. Excalibur? Heh - another nice comic book reference there. Who wrote this? I must look it up.

6. Six days and counting.

Captain John looks into the direction of Tosh and Owen when he makes the cute but not blond comment. Owen was the last one the camera focused on before he made the comment *nods*

Excalibur: I bet Davies liked the comic, or liked the title of the comic, or liked the idea of a team with that name. We know he's something of a Marvel fan. I love it when he references other stuff - like Buffy and Firefly and Star Wars in "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang". It's all part of a delightfully rich fannish tapestry.

I also got a lot of the interaction's nuances from the body language. Mainly because this computer doesn't play sound [ha], so I kinda have to. As for Captain John's outfit -- um, doesn't he kind of look like he leapt from the cover of the Sgt. Pepper album, to you? no? ok, maybe that's just me.

Yes, Sgt. Pepper... since Capt. Jack already lives by certain culturally iconic images (his attire speaking volumes regarding his American-in-the-RAF guise, long past but clearly nowhere near out of his thoughts), it is only right and fitting that this new fellow should also be borrowing images from the popular consciousness, no? I am quite pleased.

I found/made the time. The apa can wait. It starts with Captain Jack leaning close as if to kiss Captain John, and he says:

Captain Jack: You need to go. I don't want you on my territory.

Captain John: What? ...Time was, you couldn't get enough of me on your territory. [He shoots the glass in the doors.] All right, everybody out.

[The Torchwood Team comes out, guns at the ready.]

Gwen: Everything all right, Jack?

Captain Jack: S'all right, okay, okay, okay.

Captain John: You've got a team! How sweet. Oh - pretty little friend. No, uh, blond, though. You need a blond.

Owen: God. He's worse than Jack.

Captain John: Oh, oh, do you have a team name? I love team names. Come on-!

Captain Jack: Torchwood.

Captain John: Oh. Not Excalibur? Blizzard? Bikini Corps? No? Torchwood. Oh, dear.

Captain Jack: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Toshiko Sato, Owen Harper. Meet -

Captain John: Captain John Hart.

Captain Jack: We go back.

That's where the first clip ends. But the second one continues:

Captain John: Excuse me, we more than 'go back'. We were partners.

Ianto: In what way?

Captain John: In every way. And then some.

I love Ianto's fierce jealousy!

I think Captain John's Sgt. Pepper outfit is perfect. It has all the right connotations... "and then some".
