Thanks to
Wow.
Is it next Wednesday yet?
'Scuse me, I'm going to go watch it again. Meanwhile, a few thoughts:
1. The "showdown" ambience was fun. Including the bar/saloon setting.
2. The kiss was hot, as both Barrowman and Marsters promised. Both had described the scene in their interviews and it pretty much matches their descriptions.
3. From this, I have no sense of what the plot is or will be, or even whether Captain John is friend or foe. (I'm assuming he's both.) Whatever he is, Marsters seems well cast.
4. This is another scene with a rift between Jack and his team, because they're miffed with him for taking off without them. I don't much like this. Does he owe them every minute of his time and attention? Once again the team openly defies and disobeys him, which I don't like, either. If they won't obey his simplest command, how can he trust them in a crisis? Batman fired Stephanie Bain as Robin for much less, and her motives were admirable. Faugh.
5. Interesting that the BBC is deliberately using scenes featuring Jack kissing men in their promos and previews. Perhaps they've guessed how much we like this? At least it's different - other shows aren't doing this, more's the pity. Or is it the powerful hand of Russell T. Davies having its affect? If so, more power to him.

Date: 2008-01-08 05:12 pm (UTC)SRSLY. I liked how both Jack and John OBVIOUSLY were enjoying trying to mutilate each other *snorts*
Oh, and that preview has already started to be called the 'kiss kiss bang bang' preview... I like the name ^_^

Date: 2008-01-08 06:49 pm (UTC)Oooh, yes, a lot of mutuality in the scenes between Capt. John and Capt. Jack, and whatever their past is, it wasn't our Jack's lost years for sure!

Date: 2008-01-08 06:51 pm (UTC)I'd love to know? Days? Weeks? Weeks, I'd assume. Presumably not as much as a year, like the time between Rose's depature in "Rose" and her return in "Aliens of London".
maybe they're a little insecure?
So it would seem! "Can't let Jack out of our sight or he'll take up with some former lover from the future and another planet." Hmm.
Face it, if you don't get (permanently) fired for shooting your boss in the face, you're not getting fired for being miffed about the car...
Good point.
I can imagine Andy saying to Gwen, "Serves you right, you did that to me!"

It says that Captain John is Jack's former partner (in both senses) as a Time Agent, and that he is a baddie.
I wonder if he stole two years of Jack's memory? And whether the episode will be exploring and explaining that?
One way or another, we're bound to learn a little more about the Time Agency, which intrigues me.

Aragorn son of Arathorn
Aral Vorkosigan
Francis Crawford of Lymond
Captain Jack Harkness
...I'll have to think about #5...
Season 1 is variable in quality, but IMHO (obviously) worth watching.

I do too. Firefly, Torchwood...
With the flatscreen-fire behind them, it looks like the opening to a Bond movie.
There are worse connotations.

I am unfortunately cable-challenged (because it's a terrible timesink, mainly).

Date: 2008-01-09 06:59 am (UTC)In the UK, on BBC.
If not the CBC, do we know when they'll be getting it?
Possibly never. They have not said a word. The CBC is not in my good books at the moment. They bowdlerized the first series, moved around the schedule without warning, and aren't doing repeats. Faugh.
I am unfortunately cable-challenged (because it's a terrible timesink, mainly).
Somehow I seem to be immune to that. I dont' enjoy television enough to watch it much. Which leaves me feeling guilty for having cablevision at all, but I like the freedom it gives me to watch the things I do want to watch.
And, currently, it's good for entertainment to watch while exercising, like those French translations of Torchwood.
